Quite a while ago I went wheeling and got some water in my passenger side foot well. No big deal I thought, it will dry…. That’s when I discovered that the previous owner had split something greasy in the back of my car and given it a surface clean to hide the evidence:shake:.The water had the effect of bringing the grease to the surface and making the carpet coat everything that touched it in grease… Until now I had just let the rubber mats in the car cover it but today I decided to try rectify the problem. I started removing the carpet and this is what I found...

On closer inspection it was clear that problem was worse than I thought….

If you look closely at the middle of the above photo its clear that the previous owner has drilled a hole in the floor in an attempt to drain the spilt oil. Why???????????:shake::huh::confused:

After a very long cleaning process involving loads of degreaser and scrubbing for over an hour it was looking somewhat presentable again or at least as clean as I could get it..

The oil had removed most of the sound deadening and where it hadn't it had coloured it black which was impossible to remove.

I also hosed/soaked/scrubbed the carpet which will hopefully be dry tomorrow to put back in again after I have sealed the holes up.

Ewww, before you put your carpet back. Run down to a hardware store and buy some sound deadener paint, I want to do this with mine. It'll just make the inside of your car a little quieter and will protect the metal from any more spills :iconwink:

Did that with my first car. Drove around a corner and my milk shake fell over on the seat. it was a hot day and by the time I got home the car stank unbelievable :puke:The milk has soaked into everything including the sound deadening.
Got the garden hose and gave it a good soaking and only then found there were no drain holes

Got under the car and fixed it with the electric drill, funny how safety was never an issue then :rotfl:

40 years ago we just drove cars that went anywhere. They had crappy tyres but good clearance and we were forever getting towed out of holes. In the end I filled the holes with bogg
