In the pouring down rain, we had last night some thieving ***ts thought they'd steal my $350 ARB awning off my car!
They did the rounds because as I went out for work this morning, some of the neighbors along the street had other stuff missing off their 4WD's too. Someones lightforce spotties, a LED light bar(1m long) and the guy next door his Maxtrax from his roof.

These *******s are obviously professionals as they would of needed the correct tools to take these things off and have been eyeing the street for sometime!
I've only lived hear 3 weeks, in Innaloo just off Karrinyup Rd. It's a busy steet with cars always going up and down it so these ****ers must of been game!
Having engraved my initials into my stuff(bullbar, spotties, roof racks, awning) I'll surely be able to know if it's mine if I see it anywhere.

Anyway off to the cop shop to atleast report it and I'll see if insurance will do anything about it..
I'll be keeping an eye out on gumtree and if I see any of these things I'll surely be taking matters into my own hands :eviltoyou:

That sucks!
Great thinking to engrave the parts and fileing a report stating such.
Watching gumtree may well be your best chance for recovery, that's how we got my sons dirt bike back recently.
The chances of them getting caught multiply with each piece they have stolen and now have to fence or use.
Good luck. Maybe you'll come out good on the insurance side.

Aww poop, mate.

As if anyone needs this sort of poop happening ... :( :puke:

Rotten mongrels.

Taza that's disgusting news. Makes me really cranky. I hope you get some joy at the cop shop.

Best regards,

Scooby2

God I lost it this morning, slammed the door, kicked the couch... I hope the low lifes get their own back!

Why do people do **** like this, just grow up.. seriously. I'll keep looking on gumtree and see what happens. If I see it I will definitely be in contact with them! I hope insurance comes through, as it was my 19th birthday present last year too

Taza post your own ad so it comes up and explain yours was marked .... And that any help locating stolen goods would be appreciated. That way people looking for awnings will be aware they could be stolen. I also tomorrow will be on the hunt for some security screws for the awning on our love shack so no low life lifts that !

Best regards

Thanks Scooby, I will do that! I think I will now engrave everything with my initials and my year of birth. That is then definite proof of ownership..

That sucks big time Taza, I'm a tradie & engrave all my tools with my vic lic no,
hope they catch the low lifes & you get your awning back,
cheers.

Thanks mate, yeah being an apprentice(tradie) I've engraved all my tools so far. That's where the idea came from originally. Thats a good idea with the licence number!

This is rotten news.

hate to make it worse Taza, but I doubt you'lle get anything out of insurance if it was just the awning taken. The replacement cost will be less than your excess. Even if it weren't less than the excess, I'd be hesitant to claim it becuase the insurer might later refuse to insure you if you have further claims. I had an experience like this with Shannon's.

Once you get it replaced, I suggest that you get a small padlock and lock the zip runners together and in turn lock them to the roof basket. I did this with mine ages ago. It is a deterrent to theft, but it also stops curious people trying to open the zips.

I hope you do find it though mate. I also suggest going to cash converters and any other second hand shops: I recovered all of my camera gear this way once.

best of luck mate.

Gidday Taza (I know, I know - it isn't ... :( )

Engrave the licence number in the form Sxxx, where "S" = your state (= "W" for you) and the "xxx" = your licence number, is the go.
As a Neighbourhood Watch zone leader for over 20 years, I can assure you that this is the Police recommended method all over Australia.

This number is never re-used by the State. It is a unique identifier for you for all time! It is the one number that allows the Police to instantly identify who owns what, without leaving their police car ... They have access to the licence number database from their car.

Also agree about checking out the local Crime Converters and Internet sales. IF you do locate your awning, make sure that you get the Police to deal with it, don't do it yourself ...

Hope you get your awning back. Flaming scumbags ... :madred: :yell: :furious:

If they're smart and had been watching the place then they would have stolen to order or had everything pre-sold before the theft and then changed hands that very night. That's sounds like the case if they've stolen specific items from a number of vehicles.

It seems to me like they've just stolen any items that could be simply unbolted. Most of the items were just 2-4 bolts and gone.

One point this has proven, is that no matter where you live it pays to think like their are thieving scumbags around and to be cautious. Especially in Perth.

Davidov, unfortunately it is everywhere. I hope & pray for parents to teach their children manners & respect.

Best regards,

Yes, engraving it that way is the preferred & best method.
(Knowledge passed on to me from my father who was also very heavily involved Neighbourhood Watch.)

As tempting as it may be, to take things into your own hands, don't, just don't.
It's just not worth it.
Like Ratbag says, let the police deal with it.

And taza, I really hope you get your awning back mate.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Dang Taza, what a bummer!!! Sorry to hear. Hope your awning can be recovered, but...I've got to agree with RB and Mr.T, an awning is not worth getting hurt or worse over, plus then you could just end up getting in trouble yourself.

But if you find the perp and decide to recover your property yourself, get video of the entire process.
