Jimmy's 06 Forester

Well decided to start my journal. Have had the car for a while now so will try to post what I have done in order so it makes sense.

2006 MYO7 Forester XS which I bought with 52,000km on the clock back in May 2012.
Was immaculate - completely stock and hadn't been taken off road. Probably paid a bit much for it but was too good to pass up.

Mods/accessories that I have done so far include:
Subaxtreme sump guard
Yokohama Geolander ATS in size 215/65/r16
Subtle 1 inch lift blocks
New KYB Struts and Dobinsons raised springs
Rhino roof racks and Rola Basket
Ironman Awning

Car in stock form on it's first fishing trip to Salt Creek:

In a very short space of time I purchased the tyres, sumpguard, racks, roof basket and awning.

Some pics of our most recent fishing trip back to Salt Creek, South Australia:

And another trip to the Yorke Peninsula:

After both these trips I was pretty sick of strapping and unstrapping the Maxtrax to the basket (to use on the Pathfinder and Prado might I add!) so I made some brackets up to mount the Maxtrax pins on. It's so much easier now to get them on and off.

And after much deliberation and reading up on this site I purchased some Subtle 1 inch block, KYB struts and Dobinsons raised springs.

After:

Day after I had it done a couple of mates had pointed out to me that it was sitting a lot higher at the back (I think I was just in denial), and so I did a couple of measurements. I found out the front had only come up about an inch. This was due to the Subtle blocks and had gained no lift from the springs. Fearing that I had occurred the same problem as Bigcat on here I contacted Dobinsons and explained the problem. They got back to me and I quote:

We are thinking there is a change between 2005 and 2009 on the Subaru Forester as some vehicle are getting the25-30mm lift in the front and some aren’t. We are trying to narrow the problem down but as yet we are getting nowhere with Subaru as to what change has occurred.

They have offered to send me a replacement set of springs for the front which will give me the desired lift so the car sits level so will get them installed as soon as they arrive. Bit of a pain in the arse!

Oh and someone backed into me in a carpark on the weekend without me seeing or them leaving their details so now I have a nice dent on the rear bumper. Gotta love it!

Your Forry is really coming along nicely :raz:

Sorry to hear about your rear bumper & I know how you feel :madred:
The exact same thing happened to me :furious:

But it did give me a good excuse to get my rear (SubaXtreme) bar :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Nice journal Jimmy!!!

Sorry to hear about the carpark incident, but other than that, your Foz is looking great.

Great journal so far.

Weird bout the front springs not being right, Dobinsons are good with their aftersales service. Although KYB list a difference pre & post '05....

Bummer bout the dent in the rear bumper. I'm always so paranoid bout where I park because of that exact thing & no-one to leave details! :madred::yell::furious:

Keep us informed how your lift turns out....

My new set of Dobinsons springs finally arrived last week so I had them fitted today along with some Whiteline camber bolts and it looks great. Sits dead level now. Just have to take it out on a trip now to test it all out!

Wheel alignment revealed camber was out (was visible to the eye) and also toe. It makes such a difference having someone know what their doing when they work on your car!

Will post some more pictures tomorrow when I can get some better light.

Nice clean overall package.Looking good.

I'd like to have this same shelter/shade setup with me on all rides.

Here's a quick one I snapped in the carpark today. Still haven't had the chance to get any decent ones yet.

Bit of an update:
Done about 5000km since installing the lift. Very happy with the ride and extra clearance it has given me. Not too harsh around town either.
Haven't managed to get it too far away from town but did go on the odd trip over the past couple of months. See Below!

First couple of pics were from a mid winter Yorkes trip we did for a bit of fishing/camping. Note the car was fully loaded with our gear and food plus 2 bags of wood and more we had collected on the way. Little sag in the rear compared to the so called 'self leveling' struts I had before.

And these couple were taken on a recent day trip to Deep Creek when I had nothing better to do!

looking good mate, i like the maxtrax quick release
