Hi everyone. i've been quiet on the forums for the past two months. Basically its because i've been flat out starting full time work finally since finishing uni as well as planning a wedding.
As some of you know i've been unhappy with the strength and reliability of my 99 sf forester. Even though i was unhappy i have not been in the financial situation to buy a new car (wedding etc) until the other week when this happened:

so my car was stuffed and is still going through insurance claims now to confirm the totaled status.
luckily for me it was not my fault so it didn't cost me a cent, just the sadness of loosing my first car.
anyway time to move on. so i was on the look out for new 4by. I knew what i roughly what i wanted but budget was my biggest letdown. with about 12g to spend i could either pick up a nice petrol luxury pajero or prado. Or for 10g i could have a nice suzuki jimny. guess what i chose?

SUZUKI JIMNY!:lildevil: its a 2008 model vvt. manual. 67k on the clock original female owner with full service history at the dealer. never been offroad. only selling because shes having a child. big win for me. i got it for 10g which was under my 12g budget and is the closest to a new car we will get a for long time. live axle and heaps of after market part just waiting to go on to make this thing unstoppable
pick it up this weekend and cant wait.

while i feel as though i have betrayed subaru i will always have my brumby and love our 04 sg. but unfortunately i need something with more strength that can only come from live axles and ladder chassis.
I will still pop in on the forum because while the jimny is our new 4by it doesn't mean the SG and Brumby will only see tarmac! :lildevil:

Congrats on the new wheels, mate.

May it serve you well .

When I first saw the thread name, I thought you had bought a new set of alloy's :o

Congrats with the new (to you) set of wheels mate.
I hope you have many, many km's of enjoyment & adventures in your new Suzuki.

Regards
Mr Turbo

G'day again Thunder

Just a word of advice, if I may ...

Do not expect this to handle like a Subie; either off-road or on-road.

It is basically a very miniature truck, with truck suspension, steering and brakes. It also has a very high centre of gravity (i.e. a very small rollover angle ... ).

Take care with these things, specially while you are getting used to its marked differences in handling and braking.

thanks everyone. i think it will be a very good "little" car for us.
while we have no kids there is no need for a bigger car and they are cheap to modify and run plus the missue thinks its cute, well see how cute it is with a 2 inch lift and muddies
thanks ratbag for the tip. i've driven them before and are defiantly no subaru but are far better then they look for stability :raspberry:

Congrats thunder!!!:bananatoast:

Looks like it will be a fun little car. No need to be a stranger either, for years I remained active on the forum with my Yota.:iconwink:

Nice mate. And 2 grand for a lift and tires left over is a great deal. Might need to look at a 4" x 4" deep sided trailer for your roof tent and extra touring storage.

the plan is at this stage:

ARB bullbar
spot lights
underbody protection
snorkel
take out the rear seat and make draw system
2" lift and 215/75r15 muddies
roof basket for storage and rooftop tent

that should do it for now :lol:

It'll be a little beast soon enough!

I saw a custom draw system someone had made in a swb vitara. Cargo barrier just behind the front seats and draw system in the back, what was really cool was the extra space left behind the front seats between the cargo barrier he made a storage box with a flip top lid held the dual battery, wiring, maps, and inverter. Good use of otherwise wasted space

nice buy !!
spew about the foz but still a nice outcome !
i keep looking at the jimny's ... theres a couple around me for sale.
but alas funds are really my strong point :(

enjoy the new wheels !!

Bugger to see the foz go - seems we really are in a disposable society these days. 15 years ago that would have most likely been repaired and back on the road. Shows why there aren't so many older vehicles around anymore other than people expecting more from their vehicles than ever before (as in features and luxury).

The zook should be a good bit of fun.

Cheers

Bennie

it is a bit sad for me. i had all these plans of putting in more lift, mud tyres and a sump guard. I had just spent a fair bit of coin on the car addressing all the reliability issues too, with a recent service, timing belt and 4 new shocks! -BUGGER!

i think the zook will be great the missus loves it (which lets face it is the most important thing :raspberry:) and will be good to experience a new car, modifying it and working on it.

I received some good news today the car has been 'offically' written off. i get paid out mid next week hopefully and the car is been taken on the same day.
i was very happy with the pay out too.
More then i would of sold the car for that for sure!

pick up the zook on sunday and have already started shopping around for parts (cars are an addiction and i'm addict!)

Well i picked up the zook yesterday and im in love!
Doesnt sit on the 110 on the highway very well, but i didnt buy the car for a highway cruiser... ;)
Ive had the car a day and have already started ordering accessories. Have ordered a snorkel- $160 from ebay.
underbody protection- tank guard, transfer case guard, rear shock mount guards and front control mount guards.
And to top it all off a ARB winch bullbar. lets just say for a tad under $900 for a winch bullbar im stoked. sure beats the $1500 for a subaxtreme bullbar :monkeydance:
next on the list is some driving lights (looking at narva 225 combination set) and then mount my CB radio.
