Getting sick of taking my cargo barrier out to carry long loads, I decided to mod it. I wanted to keep the bottom section so decided on a hinge system.

1st step, decide on where to cut then get at it with the 1mm cutting disc:

Too late to change my mind :iconwink:

The lower section which will swing up on hinges & can lock into place either down or up:

Just gotta finish the latches (with springs) then hang it on the hinges. Then its ready to instal

Looks great so far mate :) Looking forward to seeing the finished result with the hinges on :raz:

Looks good, NL

Hope you have enough vertical space to fix the folding flap up against the upper part of the barrier ... ;). I'm sure you would have measured that first though ...

Now that you have all that experience, maybe you could help me fit my barrier in Roo2? Or at least give me some tips.

I have also thought of hinging it in the middle, so that the P/S side half can fold out of the way in an L shape back into the cargo area (for sleeping in the car; sticking long stuff in the P/S, etc).

Another thought is to have extendable "legs" that allow it to be pushed forwards up against the front seats with the rear seats folded down.

How is yours fixed into the car shell? I have the barrier, but no mounting points or hand nuts. SWMBO's car has the mounting points and hand nuts, but no barrier (different size ... ).
I was thinking of using the tie down bolts behind the back seats for the bottom, and aluminium struts to the baby capsule mounting points at the rear of the roof.

The barrier is only rated to 60 kgs, so almost anything will hold it in place IMHO. It would appear that even if the barrier were only anchored at the bottom, and held in place vertically by the seats (with seat belts plugged in), I don't reckon it would go anywhere in a hurry, even in a fairly serious prang.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to use a bit longer high tensile bolts on the existing anchorage points?

Fantastic work NachaLuva :raz:

Thats exactly how mine's been done :iconwink:

Nice. I just wonder what would be better, hinges on the bottom or the top?

I wanted to keep the floor clear when folded up in case I wanted to sleep in the back.

It will be held up near the roof by the latches & the mounting struts.

Yep sure.

Thats what I did but steel

Any chance of a photo?:poke:

My cargo barrier actually came standard with these lower extendable "legs" so as it could be mounted in either position

If I want to move the barrier back to it's normal position, they just fold / swing back against the barrier itself, out of the way :iconwink:

Installed

With the back down:

With the back up:

Bracket to lock it up:

This was very fiddly, I had made 2 brackets but I had enough problems getting 1 in exactly the right shape/position I left it at that. It wont go anywhere, a comforting thought as I sleep under it at night :rotfl:

thats a great job you've done there NachaLuva. I like MrTurbos as well, what brand is it?

A mix between the two would suit me well as i still need to get two bikes in the car and wood a lot.

I'm really not sure mate
I had it installed as part of the deal when I bought my Forry
I'm guessing that it's a Milford though :)

Looking really terrific, NL. Well done.

Thanks for your offer to help me with mine.

I will almost certainly be down your way this Wednesday about midday. Maybe we could meet up for a coffee and talk-fest, and I can have a look at your handiwork in the flesh, as it were :).
