Not exactly a great write up for the new Subie. In fact quite dissappointing i would say. It's also not the first time i have read the seats are absolute rubbish. In fact i can't remember any reviewer saying they are any good.
I know it's each to their own but i do feel it is not quite good enough for a new car. Why on earth would you release a car with rubbish seats????????
Surley they test them in the real world with real people. Suabru are so slow to respond to any criticism that a new model will be due before they do anything about it.

As usual, the testers didn't bother to look under the front seats, which is where the four air-con vents are in both our Foresters (SG & SH) ... Roo1 also had them there, but only two of.

Anyway, I must say that I'm no fan of the new Forester.

I even much prefer Roo2 to SWMBO's SH. Just call me a Luddite ... :iconwink:

Too true, Thunder, too true.

One thing to be driving a fridge on wheels, another altogether for it to be just like every other fridge on wheels on the road ...

In some ways SWMBO's SH is a better car than Roo2, but it is too big for my liking; doesn't handle as well; doesn't drive as comfortably. Roo2 is much more like my dear old Impreza, with hugely more grunt, and better gearing for touring. Love the DR box off road (and probably for towing in some circumstances, but haven't done this yet). It might "only" be 1.196:1 reduction, but it makes a huge difference to the car's abilities IMNSHO.

If you find the 1.196:1 makes a huge difference, imagine 1.447. Even better 1.59:1 (L series) or 1.8:1 which is what we should have! (what Suzukis have)

You can't drive in any of those all day, towing a trailer, on the bitumen, making sure to keep under 188 km/h in 5th LR ... :iconwink: :poke: :rotfl:.

Seriously though, the 1.196:1 LR matches the LR ratio to the increased torque of the 2.5L N/A engine as compared with the old 1.6L/1.8L/2.0L donks. They all had lower LR ratios, but also had far less torque over a far smaller rev range. It all balances out in the end.

As I have mentioned before, I reckon if I popped the clutch at 4 grand in 1st LR in my Fox, I would almost certainly break something. That problem just gets worse and worse as the LR ratio increases.

Before the 1,59:1 conversion, I sometimes had some burnt smell from the clutch, now it's just much easier and smoother.

Whilst it's not a brilliant review for the Subaru (others say it is a decent car so it depends on who the reviewer is) it is still the only one in that group that I'd buy.

Rav4: Nope.
Cx-5: Was under powered with the 2.0l, but it is now revolutionary because it has a 2.5l in it. Wow, a 2.5l, who would have thought of that. Otherwise, people I know who've had Mazdas have had issues with Mazda service centres, and the last Mazda I travelled in had 33,000kms on it, and felt much, much older than my Forester at 70,000kms. It was far noisier, both in road noise, and the number of rattles.
Outlander: :rotfl:
Tiguan: Whilst it apparently has good rear legroom, it's awkward to sit in, (technically on with the front seats) and poor boot space.
CR-V: After 3 years with a Honda, nope. Not a bad car, but nope.

These are my opinions on these cars. I'm still not really interested in replacing the '05 yet - plenty of life left in the car.

Spot on! Reviewing a car is very subjective & opinions can be swayed by many things...including "sweeteners" by car manufacturers!

If I didnt have a Subie I'd prob have to go for a Suzuki...
