I won't buy the Landrover and i decided to lift my fozzy a little further than the modest 1inch it now has.
Nearly every topic you read on the web says that 2 is the maximum liftblock and any extra will kill the cv's.
In a few topics they say that in a SF type, in the rear a little more is possible.
So would a 2.5 inch liftblock harm the cv's in the rear? Anybody with experience with this?

Hello, I am running 3in spacers in the rear and two in the front, plus I have iron man springs, the only problem I have is I can't get the tires back to camber close though. I've had it like this for three months, pulled a 2500lb trailer from Vermont to Long Island and back with no issues.

In the rear I have 2" blocks, King Springs +30mm, raised spring perches (don't know by how much). Never had a problem with rear CVs which are now 11 years old.

Mine is lifted by 2 1/2" & the CVs look fine...only just been done though.

Get under the car & have a look at them. Standard, the front hangs down & forward quite a long way but the back is almost flat so I cant see a prob raising it more, as long as you dont go silly lol

If you want even more height, why not add a body lift as well? (depending on your countries regulations)

what you did is awesome and i would gladly do that. I'm affraid that shipping the same liftkit as you used from australia to europe would be costly. And making the liftbloks i can handle that, but making the steering extension, that would be the big problem for me.

Back to the lift,
i am thinking to make a strut bottom lift in the rear. Easy to make, including a camber correction would give me 2.5 inch lift in the rear. Something what a rear CV should be able to handle at maximum angle.
Up front I now use 2cm (0.8 inch) lift blok which I made out of a 2cm thick nylon plate. Works really well. So well that i want to use 2 of those plates to come to 4 cm.

My first thought was to make a strutbottom lift up front as well, but as I understand is 2.5inch to much at full angle for the front CV's. Or do i have it wrong?

Read well at max angle. So the front wheel totally hanging free in the air

Is that only strut blocks?
Im thinking of doing the same on mine
Hows your wheel alignment look after that and what have you done to correct it?

I've had one CV die due to the boot ripping but it is original, was perished and has had 3.5" strut lift on it for 40, 000km and 2" of strut before I upgraded my lift kit for another 40, 000km

Hi taza, do I understand it right that you have a 3.5 strut lift on the front side?

Where do all the stories come from that 2inch strutlift is the maximum?

In that case there would be no problem with a 2.5inch strut bottom all around.

@dedman, if made correctly there is no issue with camber.

Yeah I already have 2" strut blocks I made myself installed. Front has no camber issues because the blocks have camber correction built in. The rear however does have issues because there is no room at all for camber correction because the springs are that close to the spare tire well its not funny....

Did your tires move too far forward, with the 3" lift, to where you HAD to use trailing arm spacers?

Maybe it is the fact that english isn't my mother language..

But, I still do not have a clue if 2.5 inch lift on the frontshocks really wil kill the cv's ?
Taza has 3.5inch but is that also on the front struts?

If that extra .5 inch is really too much, is there a way to limit the downtravel with a strap so that it does not over-extent the cv's?

 Perhaps it's because your original question asked "So would a 2.5 inch liftblock harm the cv's in the rear?" So everyone has been responding in relation to rear lifts.

In the front I have 2" blocks, kings +10mm and raised spring perches. In 11 years I've had the drive shaft boot above the cat split a couple of times but that's about it really.

It may affect your CV's but think of the fun you'll have; I'd say go for it!

2.5 in the front will be fine, now get to work!

Edit: I believe Taza has total 3 3/8" lift in front, 2" strut top blocks, 1 3/8" springs , plus tyre lift.

Why the hell don't we all just use millimetres?

His lift is 85mm in the front, your strut bottom should be 65mm if you are using the bottom hole as the top hole.

go for it, if theres alot of mud and wet weather 4x4 your more likley to rip boots efore wearing out the cv's.

2" of lift is the maximum that can be legally done in Australia which is where that number comes from.

Thnx everybody! Here in holland every alteration on a car is officially forbidden. But in the realworld as long as you don't make it to crazy, noisy and showy the cops won't notice.
I gonna buy the materials for a strut bottom lift, and after the summer i will post the pics.

With a big lift make sure your peaks on the CV boots aren't touching when the car is on flat ground
What i mean is with the angle of the CV's none of the rubber should rub on it self or you will go through them quick

If they are rubbing undo the small strap and stretch the boot slightly then tighten the strap again
