Through the years my sons and I have had a lot of fun with different field cars and vans that we "saved" from the crusher. :lol: It's hard to beat the fun that can be had with a vehicle bought at scrap prices. Both my oldest boys learned to drive the redneck way!:ebiggrin:

We didn't beat on the Jeep, it was more of a recovery tool.:ebiggrin: I'd like to have it back.

Here we call them 'paddock bombs', 'bush bashers' or the less politically correct "boongers".

I wonder how many other terms there are for them?
 
you didn't get to keep the jeep? there is one that was for sale that brought 6k i think.. it was all original and had less than 100k miles on it. I wanted so bad but didn't have the money
 
Thats how I kind of learned how to drive, when I was at my late uncles farm :iconwink:

And you know, with just a little bit of work, you could almost make the one in the last vid into a 2 door Baja :p

That is awesome!!! And I'll bet they learned a lot better about how a car truly handles than any drivers ed class is going to teach them, and they are probably better drivers for it. I like the fact, in at least the first video, that they were wearing helmets.:cool:
 
This is one of those red neck things that noone can really make fun of because it looks like the most fun thing ever! Haha

I grew up in northern Virginia and we just rode dirtbikes and go-carts, and I stole the car from my parents every once in a while;)
I wish someone had gotten us a field car!

"Beater" is another term for them.

You're rite Carl, they got to see how a crash at any speed can knock ya silly, so they've got a healthy respect for the consequences of a big wreck. That said, the oldest 2 are a little wild though....:eek:

Exactly, some people don't like seeing what appears to be usable vehicles trashed out for fun though. Those folks don't have a clue.

It's not too late for you either, it might take a year to find a deal on something that you can scrap for your $$ back, but they're out there.

And yea I tried to make the kids wear helmets when we knew we where going to do anything too crazy. Don't ask my 2 youngest boys about the 1 doored Lincoln though......:censored::ebiggrin:
There's more video of the Lincoln and a mini van to edit and we've got a van now, it's just taunting us at work everyday. More to come! :cool:

No mate, unfortunately not.

My leaning was more like, when you can reach the pedals you jump in to help out with the work.
Whether it be on the bike, car, tractor or the truck.

Even though it was work, to me these holidays were always fun & something I always looked forward to :raz:

I still have some very fond memories of those many, many w-ends away :)

I did a lot of my learning of vehicle control on one of these (and the subsequent Honda that replaced it). You learn a lot from driving vehicles on farms.

No doubt that riding atvs gives ya more respect for anything motorized and translates easy into better driving skills. Do you still ride atvs?
All kids should be so lucky as to spend time on a farm, seeing more about living than technology based living.
 
Agreed - if you can safely ride one of these, you really learn vehicle control. Also having to change gears gives an appreciation of manual driving before hitting the road. No clutch, but still requires gear changes.

Yeah, I still ride them when I'm down at my grandfather's farm. Not really for enjoyment as I used to, more so for work - last time I was there I spent all the time that I was riding the ATV towing stuff (leaf litter, sprayers (when the season is right))
