Has anyone changed the front diff seals on the sf? I've got a leaking p/s need to change the cv on that side as well if it isn't much more work i'll probably do it at the same time.

yes but it is leaking haha. all over the exhaust and making a nice burning smell

Sorry I thought it was just the power steering leaking not the front diff as well. I assume the car is auto?
It could end up being a big job and unless u have the tools and the know how I would do it from home personally because if you get stuck its hard to get help

its a manual, and i've got all the tools for most things, I've changed seals on solid axel cars before. Only annoying thing with the forester is i'll need to drop the gearbox oil.

I managed to look through a shop manual its a simple enough job once the cv is out.

I'll try and take a few photos and try abit of a write up for everyone.

The front diff seals can only be changed from inside the box...but 2 ways to do it !

Take the box apart and take the diff out (what I did as the box was open) or unscrew the diff bearing cage from outside (take some pics and count the turns to fix it back exactly where it was).

thanks jf1sf5,the second way was exactly how i was thinking of doing it. I'm still in two minds over it the leak is a very very slow leak i might wait till its agrevated. or the clutch is due as well and put in an l series low range gear while its open.
