....what would you buy?

Found a local dealer selling BFG ATs at AU$230/corner for 215/70/16. I asked about the Grabber AT2s and he said same price. The only things that I want out of my tires other than offroad ability is good grip in the wet as I tend to thrash it round corners, and lowish noise.

(I am used to a fair whack of noise with my 19s roaring away though!)

Never had ATs on my car before so I'd like people's opinions please.

Cheers!

I'd go with the strongest sidewall. I like BFG, have had 2 sets of AT on the Foz and initially AT then muddies on the Triton. Having just completed a 2 week outback trip on my new BFG muddies I wish I could get them for the Foz. I've always been interested in Grabbers but have never tried them.

Wouldn't say they are average in sand at all. My BFG A/T's creamed Fraser. Once aired down didn't get stuck once.

So is it better to have soft or hard sidewalls on sand? Over here in Wa that'll be what I'll be driving on most of the time, on a lower psi of course

I can't see how they would be any worse really just means you have to let a few PSI more air out? If anything they should be slightly harder to roll of the bead.

Sounds like the BFGs are a go then. I might get my stockies painted/powder coated first though, i think they look good in black aka Blue Fox's Foz.

Black rims look badass. Maybe with a 'steel silver metalic' lip.

You mean like this?

I believe all BFG ATs are LT tyres so 6 ply side walls.

Triguard = 3 ply sidewall :iconwink:

Both tires are quite similar, General a little better on the wet, BFG a little better on the sand...

I would go the best distributed tire because if you have a puncher and have to replace it.

Yeah I did think about availability. Probably will go the BFG route and just enjoy the slippery sideways action

I've not had problems with the sidewalls on sand. the only issue I have with the BFGs on sand is that the rim protector tends to let crap in between the rim and the bead when the tyre is deflated. This leads to bead leaks which can be a PITA.

getting close to needing new rubber again myself: must go and have a good look at the tyre thread.

I never was a big fan of the BFT AT tires, they were good at the first 15k miles then got real slick. Mud was a no go.. I spun like crazy on the road taking off and in grass I even got stuck once.. had to put my jeep into 4wd to get out Pretty sad.. I think there are better AT tires out there.

IMO the Rugged Terrain T/A is far better than the BFG AT

or Cooper Discoverer A/T3

or Falken Rocky Mountain ATS

bfg's 100% they are a much higher quality tire than the yokos all around. stronger side wall, better rubber compound, better traction (maybe not on wet asphalt but thats because the yokos are basically a bigger tread all season tire)

the bfg t/a's are one of the best selling tires.

Im stoked to see how they look:)

Disappointed they are only 3 ply side wall? Most LT's are 6 ply I thought? My mates all have LT's Maxxis, coopers and Micky T's which are all 6ply i'm pretty sure.

Many people who had some General AT2 drive now the "new" General AT and most of them say it is far superior.

I had the BFG AT and was very happy but just too noisy on tarmac around 50-70 km/h when half worn.

I now have the General AT and its a super tire !

6, 8 or even 10 ply on the tread face sure, but I doubt 6 ply on the sidewall.

I'll probably consider Generals again when the BFGs need changing. I only really picked BFGs due to them being the same price. As for the noise, my car is a turbo with a 3inch exhaust and a cannon so I probably won't even notice it haha
