What are the stock 98-02 forester spring rates?

I had heard like 118 in the rear and 157 up front, is this correct?

I am trying to order springs for my new coilovers and I don't want to go softer than stock, but I don't know how much stiffer I should go and still be able to utilize all of the travel when needed? It will be my daily driver as well as my offroader.

I also have about 200lbs in bumpers now;)

Thanks!

Pics or it didn't happen, Garrett! :raz:

Curious to read answers to your question here, in addition to following the installation of your adjustable custom shocks in Members Forum.

I don't know the official spring rates in pounds/inch, sorry !

For some reason 120lbs sounds somewhat familiar.
I'm not sure why, but it just does.

I could be way off though, so don't quote me on that.

I don't know whether this is any help or not (probably not) but I currently have 30mm raised King springs in my Forry (MY-05) & they're rated at 190lbs.

Yes they are a firm ride, but not overly. But then again, thats just my personal opinion.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think both the front & rear are both the same.
I do know that the rears are 190lbs though.

If you know it in kg's that works too. I can convert it easily.

Thanks!

I can't find the official SF spring rates but I asked a friend to find it while he has the book for the mechanics.

I think I'm leaning towards 165 in the rear and 200 up front because I don't want them as stuff as kings and I want them stiffer than stock. This seems like a good middle ground...

165lbs = roughly 30kg

200lbs = roughly 35kg

This is the rates I have on my Proflex shocks, you could maybe go a little stiffer because of your front and rear bumpers...

I would but the next step up would be 200 rear and 225 or 250 front.

That just seems too stiff to me but I'm not sure...

200lb=35kg

225lb=40kg

250lb=44.5kg

Originally posted by Gazoola: I got in touch with Kings and Dobinsons today for some specs on their spring rates.

KINGS (raised)
Are apparently about 25% stiffer than originals (front 148lb, rear 140lb)
front (KSFR-32) 185lb
rear (KSRR-33) 175lb

Guarantee - if sags more than 10mm then free replacement..

Dobinsons - Much stiffer on the specs, and was told that they are linear rate.
front (25mm raise C55-044) 250lb
rear (30mm raise C55-045) 215lb

I knew I'd seen it posted somewhere.

I'd increase spring rates by the percentage of increased weight as a rule.

I bottom out occasionally so I'd add an extra 10% on top or if you have longer springs and more travel some progressive rate bumpstops.

@stilson, nice find !

@garrettG, I travel very light and like to have a comfortable car so with your mods (bumpers, maybe roof rack...), I think you could go for 200 rear and 225 front, you wouldn't loose wheel travel as you are heavier.
