While I'm very happy with the HID projectors in my Fox, I needed some extra light pointing upwards so as I descend a dune I can see up the next one.

I've never really considered LEDs but with all the hype about light bars I thought I'd give them a go.

I searched online and found I could have a light with 5x 3W LEDs shipped for about $25. This was the cheapest at $5 per 3W LED.
The best I could find in stores was about $8.50 per LED. Then I found an Australian seller on eBay with these: https://bit.ly/11iCoFX, just over $3 per LED and package compactly and quite attractively. The seller says the LED chips are made by Cree.

They are sold as pencil beams but they are maybe 45 deg so more of a flood.

Weight is about 800g each.
Power: 27W
Lumens: 1800

The light only throws about 50-60m so they won't suit high speed highway driving but for offroad they are about right I think.

Output shots and photos to come!

I'm a big fan of LED light bars...the way of the future!

Just be careful to look for genuine Cree, the housing is fully water/shock proof & that the LEDs are wired indivually. Otherwise if 1 LED fails the whole thing gets thrown away :(

i'm in the middle of changing my interior lights to LED, i already have LED parker bulbs and have brought 5m strip of 600 LEDS to mount on my awning! Can't wait to have them all in, its going to be the biggest riced up forester in gippsland :rotfl:

i have considered an LED light bar but can't justify the price! would rather get a really good set up driving lights.
how are these lights on the highway stilson? and is the construction sturdy? if there good i might have to invest :iconwink:

The lights are IR68 rated and seem pretty tough.
Not sure if they have the throw for highway use though.

Lightbars are nice but ubber pricey... Vision X makes some nice one so does Ridged Industries.
