Ok lemme first say how much I really love this site.

Scoobytruck.com is lacking and NASIOC is full of kids.

I come here for honest and truthful information.

So dig this. I found my set of Hella 550's. I'd like to if possible run them with a fuse close to the battery and hot wire to the bulbs, Then run their ground with the factory Fog Light ground.

Will this work out?

Are Subaru's normally Hot or Ground switched ?

Subies are ground switched. Very happy that you're enjoying this board!

If I were you, I would mount a relay as close as possible to the light, and switch the relay. This has multiple benefits, including not having high amperage wiring running from the supply to the lights; etc.

Fuse between relays and lights - i.e. on the high amperage side of the relay. This should protect the relay/s and the low amperage switch wiring. Not a bad idea to fuse the supply side of the high amperage - i.e. between the battery and the relay. Others may have better suggestions than mine. If so, follow their advice instead .

Using a certain brand of bulbs in my Impreza (90/55W), I managed to melt the headlight connector plugs when the high beam element broke and fell across the low beam element, sending the current drain through the roof!

I changed the brand of bulbs I was using; cut off the non-thermoplastic OEM connectors and replaced them with after-market thermoplastic connectors. No more problems for the next 180,000 odd kms ...

https://www.ultimatesubaru.org/ is another great place, we have everything over there.

So you want your HELLAs to come on with your fog lights? The human eye is drawn to the brightest light so while looking good and sounding good, functionally it may not work out to well. Why not just wire them in with a seperate switch and relay?

And welcome to the site :)

I open the box and the relay is missing. So I got to thinking about how nice it'd be to not cut the dash.

I have all 3 of the factory switches doing something stock and the Activity lights come with a new cubby/pocket that goes above the ashtray, This new piece has the A/L's button in it. So I can't hijack that I don't have.

What I don't have are heated seats.

If I can find out how that switch operates I may try to find that and use it. I'll just try to match paint and cover the seat and heat wave logo.

If that switch is momentary that just closes a circuit that has a timer in it then that switch will be no use to me. If it's an Push-Close Circuit,Push again Open circuit, I can use that.

I'm also missing the AWD emblem that goes right above the heated seat switch spot..

I could bring my light switch thru that and mount it right there.

I think you can get heated seat switch from an early gen in there. It looks like it. Tjose are just on-off-on rockers. I am bemused, what is that slot right next to the coin holder?
