Something a little different

That thing is seriously weird-looking!

Those tiny little wheels below a wannabe Jeep body... :poke:

I don't think the Brumby/Brat was ever sold in Europe, was it? So my guess is that GL hatchback mechanicals from 1982 are the more likely bet.

It is a funny looking thing for sure!

We did get the brumby/ brat, although it was called an MV or a 284 ,catchy name huh.

Everywhere in Europe, no. But Switzerland imports Subarus since 1972.

Hey, jf1sf5. Having grown up in Switzerland, I'm well-aware of Subaru's presence there! However, I don't think we ever got the Brat/Brumby pick-up, did we? Well, except for the radio-controlled Tamiya Brat, which I built and drove as a kid, and which was technically my first Subaru.

I can't remember of the Brumby/Brat (pickup) but we sure had the 3 door version.

Agreed! My earliest memory of a Subaru is of my primary school teacher's dark green station wagon with white wheels. From memory, it was similar to the 1983 GL below. I remember seeing 3-door hatchbacks in the following years too.

Doesn't this green GL Wagon look so much better than the travesty in the OP? :p

It wasn't until a long decade later that I started appreciating Subarus. My love for Subaru started with the release of the original (SF) Forester in 1997, at which point I had already moved to the US. And it took another nine years until I was able to get my own, a 2006 (SG) Forester. Good memories!
