I'm not a NoOb to working on car by any means. But I also know what I don't know, Ya know?

So, How does one go about replacing it with engine In Car ?

Brands of Pans to avoid ? (State Side please).

Precautions or tips or hell even out right instructions ?

So do you want to actually replace the sump or just reseal it?
On a subaru they quite straight forward to do.

Clumb under the car and dump the oil, undo the dozen or more M6 (10mm head) bolts, a shallow 10mm uni joint socket and a long extention on a 1/4 drive ratchet works great.
Drop the pan off and clean the gasket surfaces.
Subaru only use gasket silicone 3bond or an equivalent no actual gasket.

Wether you are just resealing the old sump or fitting a new sump apply a thin smear to both surfaces and refit in the reverse order of disassembly.

Couldn't be simpler.

I need to replace the whole pan.

I've heard rumor I have to raise the engine some due to the cross member blocking the rear set of bolts ? Spot looks tight to get into.

It's 33ftlb torque right ?

It really depends on the person and what tools you have, I have a neat set of 1/4 drive sockets with a uni joint built in and they make it super easy to get to those rear bolts, but yes it would probably be a good idea to lift the motor for a first timer to make sure you can have the maximum room available to do the job.

I dont have the torque setting on hand but 33ftlb sounds about right

I think I have everything....srsly...

This is what I brought to the table in the Crown Vic world, Besides to thoroughly scrutinized Tech Write-ups about Suspension and Lighting.

I also did this at the production cost of $90.00 and one free donated transmission.

Do i have to lift the motor to replace the oil pan?

I have a 2000 forester non turbo. Sohc.

I just busted my oil pan on rail road tracks. So i need to fix mine as soon as my replacement comes.

If anyone has done this on a subaru please lmk
