About 4 weeks ago my son listed his dirt bike on Craigslist and freely gave out his address to anyone interested. Three weeks ago the bike was stolen from his locked garage, but only after cutting a total of five locks or chains to get to it. Judging by the marks on the lock securing his girlfriends KLX140, the thief wore out the bolt cutters getting the CRF250 loose.
He filed a police report and put a "stolen bike" ad on Cl a few times. Last Monday night while scouring Charlotte Cl motorcycles section, there it was! My son also got 2 calls in the next 15 minutes to alert him, 1 from Ga. and 1 from Al.

The perps ad.

My son set up a meeting to see the bike at 10 a.m. Tues. It wasn't easy for my two oldest boys or myself to sleep that night, so we used GoogleMaps Streetview to find the apartments with the brick/vinyl combo and hatch a plan. I thought there was very little chance of ever seeing the bike so I cruised the Village Lake apartments in Charlotte at 9:00.
The boys and I met the seller at 10 and acted like we where buying a bike. We got the CMPD involved after we confirmed that was his bike. A chase ensued and I found the bike just waiting for us to take it back home.
They CMPD hauled the perp to JAIL!
Here's a little video.

Well done! Glad you managed to find the bike AND get your community rid of a scumbag :D

Very glad you got it back. When selling items like that I always get a phone number BEFORE I hand out the address. Best idea is to get their phone no & call it to give them the addy, that way you weed out the dodgy ones....

Well done Gravel_Rocks (together with the CMPD) Great to hear your son got his bike back :)

And just like Fly said, there's one less scumbag in the world to worry about.

Regards
Mr Turbo

good to hear a happy ending
I've had at least 2 instances of friends having their bikes stolen from "buyers" coming to have a look and convincing them for a "test ride" and simply taking off with the bike. So beware anyone who "got dropped off by a friend" or "took the bus" . Demand their car keys and drivers licence/ ID if you let them for a test ride

Good work, and good outcome, GR.

Glad to hear it; and that the villain got his deserved comeuppance.

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When my Kawi was stolen, it was recovered. However there was some justice to it. The two fine inner city youths that stole it rode into the back of a parked car at speed. Needless to say the cops couldn't arrest a dead body. in NY stolen bikes don't even make it onto police radar screens, even if you manage to find them like you did.
