Went fishing the other day. Loaded up a slightly bigger rod with my Diawa Certate 4000 to drop a live bait down to see if i could get a jewie. All good until i went to pick up the rod and check the bait and went to wind BUT no bloody handle!!!!
Somehow i had not put it on correctly...it's got me baffled....but that's what happened.
I sent Diawa an email and no problems, have them in stock, give us $190 and we will send you one.
This is an older Certate, maybe 5 years but in perfect condition and my mate bought it back from the US with a spare spool for $430. Out here at the time i think they sold for around $550 but not with the spare spool.
$190 for a handle!!!
Stuck now as i can't use it but object to a rip off like this.
I'm just trying to get hold of a dealer somewhere in the US but generally the postage from the US is the killer.
I'll see how i go.

Would this work?

No,don't think it would. The Certate had a particular style of handle,a 'flip and lock' and although the thread could be the same it still has to seat into the side plate of the reel.
But thanks for the post.
Maybe if any of the US members of ORS are into fishing and live near a tackle shop, that could be of help:ebiggrin:.
I could send pics etc but at least i know these reels were sold in the US as that's where this one came from.

That's bad luck! And, yes, what a rip-off!

Bugger, Silver :(.

Maybe buy a cheap reel and modify the handle to fit?

I'll look into options first, but will take it with me to the tackle shops in Merrimbula to see what they say.
I couldn't bear to have it not looking 'proper'. aaaarrrrgggg!!
I look after everything i own and it just wouldn't do to have a 'fake' handle on it . It would do my head in!!

Sorry to hear that about your fishing rod mishap :sadbanana:

Did I read that right ? They want $190 for just the handle ?

What a rip off !! :eviltoyou:

Yep. Double checked. They explained that the handle, bail arm and something else are the dearest parts. This is, of course, rubbish. These are quite expensive reels and you buy them because of the gears and drag system. In theory they should last forever. They are made strong and still put together in Japan.
Of course spare parts cost more than the sum total of the new price of a reel but $190 (postage was $5) for a handle out of a new price of ,say, $550 leaves $360 for the rest of the reel. Way over the top. $100 i could stomach but this is just stupid.
In the end i probably have no choice.
Once i sort out where to look in the US i will see what i can do.

Could you post up a coule of pictures, i could possiblly turn up something on the lathe and post it to you

Thanks for the offer. I have got on to a US mob
https://www.fishingreelparts.com/
and they have said they don't have the part in stock but can get it from Diawa and it is $US90 plus postage. The postage from the US is usually sky high for some reason but i have asked them if they could give me an idea how much.
I am just organising some pictures from my mate who has the same reel and will send it to them to confirm it is the correct handle and will see how it goes.
Over 100% difference in price. I try hard to support Australian companies but this is the reason why people shop online. Makes me mad!!:eviltoyou:
