The "STUMPY"...!

Hello good folks!

My BigStick arrived today so I slapped it on the rear windshield as quickly as I could. Thanks carljwnc for the quick delivery:iconwink:. The car feels very very tough now and it goes well with my FORESTER rear brake light!:discomonkey:

Ok so to cut a long story short. My Fozz is currently sitting on WRX STi suspension so the OEM unit will be installed back in a few weeks time. Im quite excited to begin the cars transformation and enjoy the dirt once again much like the old times.

WISHLIST:

Re-install OEM suspension (in 3 weeks time)
Re-install cargo barrier (This weekend)
YOKO GEO AT's (but some BFG rubbers would be great!)
Sump Protector/skid plate
Rally style mudflaps (must be RED)
Roof basket
UHF Radio + Antenna
2" Strut lift (anyone in Oz make these?????)

more fun times!!!

Looks good, mate.

Do you have to fit the mounting points for the cargo barrier, or are they already fitted?
I have a Milford barrier for my Fox (Roo2), but no mounting points.
SWMBO's has the mounting points for a Milford barrier, but no cargo barrier. I haven't measured/tried it, but her SH looks as if it is considerably wider and higher than my SG.

As for tyres, I have found that touring tyres (Michelin XM2. I had Pirelli P7 originally - they are now on my trailer) seem to work as well as anything for anything that I am prepared to tackle in my SG. I am not prepared to bash an expensive car to bits ...

At Bunyip, the Pirellis gave me exactly the same grip as NachaLuva's Yoki AT-s gave him - bloody near zero. He reckons that my having the vLSD gave me more control of my car than his tyres did for him. In any event, neither helped much, and it could very easily have ended in tears, or worse ...

IMHO, I reckon that the technology that our cars have give us far more advantage off-road than tyres/tread pattern does.
With my 1968 LC, the exact opposite was true. I ran Custom Hi-Miler truck tyres on the front for steering/braking, and full bar lugs on the back for traction and mud-busting and "walking" over rocks. By the time they had worn out, Olympic had come out with one of the first cross-over tyres that had a treaded centre and lugged outer third. These worked as well as the above combo for towing a tandem horse float.

We played in the mud a bit at Noojee later in Jan 2012, during which I damaged my left shoulder badly (rotator cuff injury ... ). It is still getting better - slowly ...

NL went back and they successfully attacked the Gentle Annie Track last April. Trip report here:

My thoughts from all this were that I wasn't prepared to sacrifice on-road safety, performance and handling for marginal gains in off-road use. That would probably change if I spent 50-80% of my time on unmade roads. So when I got new tyres and all four wheels aligned (they were all pointing in slightly different directions ... ), I opted for the Michelin XM2. So far, very happy with that choice.

SubaXtreme make an air-bag compliant alloy sump guard, but some have had problems with cracking. It is re-weldable.

Looks fantastic STUMPY, especially now with the Big Stick :raz:

Just make sure you tell your insurance company, so they/you can increase your Forry's value

@Ratbag - Hi mate. The cargo barrier was already installed when I bought the car. It is a Hayman Reese (Subaru OEM). The Barrier is mounted by brackets on all 4 mounting points. The height of my Haymann Reese is 77cm x 139 width. You are correct... SH's are higher and a tad wider than our SG's. However, cargo barriers differ by manufacturers. As for the tyres.. I used to use P7's and they were great!! I think, this time around, Im looking for a more aggressive tyres as Im anticipating to tackle bigger and or rougher tracks. I need all the help in traction I need. :iconwink:

@stilson - Hi mate. so who is this vendor??? PM me if its better that way.

@mr turbo - Hi mate. Thanks. My Fozz has always been a million bucks to me!:monkeydance:
