Friends of mine who are driving, wranglers, discovery's, with winches and mudtires and so on asked me to join them in an off road event which is held by night. Normaly i use my buggy for these trips, the only buggy then but i know that car and that it's very capable. But it's winter now over here so it's cold +/- 0oc and a lot of rain now which means mud, a lot of mud. Not a tempting idea to drive this in a buggy with no heating.

Those 4x4's are heavy and totaly different compare to a humble forester with AT tires and + 1 inch. Kind of david and goliath. I've driven this forester in sand and on gravel roads where it performed very well. So...
Would i have any change not to make a fool of myself when I would go in my forester?

You are just as capable as those other vehicles, I am not a fan of cold plus mud so i would be waiting for wamr weather. Go out and see what your roo would do, we go mudding with them all the time.

I'll 2nd what nipper says, your Forry is a very capable vehicle. I'm sure you will quite surprised at what it can actually do.

Fly makes a good point too, re the recovery points, just make sure the recovery gear you have does fit them.

Personally if it was me, I'd probably pass & wait for another time.
However, since you've been out with these mates before, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Just remember that it's entirely up to you & your call.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Give it a shot, take it easy. Don't go hard until you know your vehicle really well. Well that's how I do it.

Have fun and take heaps of pics :)

I am guessing that you have had as much rain as we have in the UK, 2nd wettest winter since records began. I know some of the farm tracks I drive on have become pretty rutted and I have struggled with clearance.

That would be my only concern, but otherwise go for it!

+1 on that.

The combination of mud and cold would have me waiting for warmer weather. If that doesn't bother you, though, gear up, be prepared, and go have some fun!

Oke I go!
Because of the deep mud ground clearance is my only concern. The event is the january 29. I will post some pics.

Hi Casper !

Before your trip in the mud, do you have any sump guard ? And what tires are you running, because with AT tires, it might be tough. Insa Turbo have the sahara which looks like the BF Mud km1 in 235 60 16, it should just fit your forester which is the same as mine !

l made an aluminium sump guard so thats oke. I use rather small grabber at2 2057515. I will see how this works. Like i said, normaly i drive these events with my 2wd buggy with bfg mud tires. But my wife doesn't like the buggy. To fast, to loud & to primitive. So i think that my forester who is also my dailydriver wil be used more offroad. Maybe i'll buy a set as big as possible mud tires for events.

I will aswer in english to keep it understandable for the rest here.. :iconwink:
Hi laurens nice to see somebody else from holland! Check this site:

https://www.modderpoel.nl/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21215

I'am the only one with a forester ( also from '99). Feels like david between a lot of goliaths. Rest is driving with mercedes g, disco's, wranglers, hardcore suzuki and so on. The event is held 1week later on february the second.
modderpoel is a very nice 4x4 forum with a lot of events. A little more subaru's would be nice!

HI Casper,

I agree let's stick to English around here, it would be rude not to in my opinion.

I checked your link out and looked at te youtube-clips and pictures and I thought I saw a Merc G get well stuck in one of the clips, if such is the case I;m staying well away LOL
Because I think with our Subarus we really dont stand a chance.

You might want to check out www.mercator-experience.com and on that site go to open evenementen , these guys organise events which are called Greenlaning routes throughout the Netherlands.
I called the owner a couple of times to check if the subaru can make it there, and he assured me it easily can.

I will take part in an event on EasterSunday around Borculo(in the East of the country)
This event wil start at 7:30 pm and wil last past midnight.

Are there 4x4 areas where you live, because I know a couple of public roads(dirt an woodlands) but they are few and far between.

Off roading is a b***h in the Netherlands

I am gonna give it a try. My forester sits 3cm higher than stock up front, 5cm rear and has general grabber tyres. So i will let you know how it worked out.
I have a nice route on gps on the veluwe around putten area. 99%legal 100km long say 70% offroad. Easy to drive with a stock forester, a bit to easy for my taste more rally-like.
nearby amsterdam you have some offroad playgrounds in almere, utrecht and spaarnewoude. Like to drive there with my buggy although utrecht and almere is possible with the subaru to.
See modderpoel forum for pics. Or let me know if you want to go some day.

Hi Casper,

I'm very interested how you get on at your event ,my guess would be that if the tempratures stay below 0 and the snow keeps a bit you will have no problem boggin down because the ground/soil will be frozen solid.

However if it warms up and all that snow turns to water you will have one H*ll of a job gettin

BTW would you send me that route you got on the Veluwe by e-mail for me to drive.
