Hi Everyone,

I drive a 2006 forester X. Does anyone know if you have to replace the stock struts when you are installing raised King Springs?

My OEM struts seem to have lots of life left in them, I'd like to keep them on if I can. I'm hoping there isn't a compatibility issue.

Thanks for your help on this.

Your struts will be fine. The only reason to change struts is if you have SLS (which you shouldn't) as the raised kings confuse them, to upgrade from SF to SG for extra tyre clearance or if they are rooted. The first two examples are just for the rear pair.

They look like this

Food for thought: Raised springs place your shocks higher in their stroke, meaning they can top out more easily and lift a wheel.

My 05Outback had SL struts, but there was no extra 'pot' on the side of it, just the single telescopic strut.
Replaced them with KYBs when I did my King Spring & Sumo 1" lift.

If you're unsure if you have SL rears, call a Subaru dealer & quote your VIN. Every build info is recorded & they can tell you exactly what you have on your specific vehicle :iconwink:

Thanks,

Good idea with the vin #. I'll give the dealership a call today and see if they can tell me for sure what shock type I have. I'll also look to see if I have a pot on the side of the shock as well. Cheers guys. :>

"X" models usually did not have SLS. If in doubt, add some weight in the back so the rear end drops a bit; drive a couple of kilometres and if it levels out then you have SLS.
