Hi, I was wondering whether anyone else had issues with their rear sway bar after fitting a lift kit?

Apparently I need extended end links and possibly stronger brackets and mounts.

Also is there any issues with legality of driving on the road with the rear sway bar disconnected.

Cheers

Nope mate, I'm running 4" strut lift in my Foz and the rear swaybar is fine and bolted up. The swaybar links/bushes have worn out quicker from the extreme lift I have though.

I think there are some legal issues about running with no swaybar but I don't think it is anything major. I don't think it would be a facotr in an accident either but I'm not 100% certain on this..

Mine has undergone about 5 inches of.lift total . and the first time i hooked up sway bar i had it on wrong . but like taza sayed no issue other than it wearing out quicker in the links .

Ok cheers, otherwise the bloke that fitted the lift kit was saying that it would cost a couple of hundred to get the end links and brackets/bushes. Also he thought that it would bend the mounting brackets? Due to an increased twisting action

Of course the other contributors to this thread have very different models to your '07. You should probably use extended links. I did read somewhere once about "flipping" the rear bar so it was better positioned when lifted - perhaps someone with better knowledge of this can chime in.

Mine does have additional brackets (I don't have the sways connected most of the time):

Cheers Kevin, I'll get the extensions to keep it legal on the road. Also where do you get quick disconnects for the sway bars?

As far as I know, quick disconnects aren't available for our Subi's unfortunately
If you really want some, they're not all that hard to make :)

There's a good right up on here of how to do them, which you may be interested in, if you want to have a go at making your own :iconwink:

Swaybar Quick Disconnects

Cheers Mr Turbo, the place I got the lift kit fitted at is going to get back to me with how much they can change the end links and make quick disconnects. Good write ups on the link.

Also if disconnecting the sway bar and 4wding does it create a lot of force/wear/fatigue on the CVs etc because of the increased angles imposed?

That is actually a very good question Hunter

I'd never thought of them in that way.

I'm pretty sure when lifting a wheel the strut is at full extension with the sway bar connected so you would just be allowing the wheels to move more independently, not further.

Ok I thought actual wheel travel increased as well? As when it's put up on a hoist with the sway bar connected they don't seem to go as far down as the photos I've seen with them disconnected. I'll ask the suspension place when I get the extended end links next week. Cheers

The amount of time the wheel spends at full extension is minimal so it wouldn't have too much effect on CV wear in any case.
