So we've got our first real accumulation of snow out here & having the day off, i had a little time to get out and play

How the day started

Started the trip from Longmont, so headed west on 36 out towards Estes Park to see what i could get myself into

At about half way there, i found a little County Rd i decided to take & check out what was down it

It was nice for a little while 'til i found a nice Forest Access d that had only footprints in it, so always nice to lay the first tracks  Was a little rutty under that smooth pow, but nothing too exciting.

My turn around point about a mile or so in

Headin back down

Another part of the rd that was fun to do a little sliding on around the curves :lildevil:

Then went on into Rocky Mtn NP since i was already out that way and have a park pass, so i figured i would check out the views. Some pics are better than others as i had our camera, but forgot the memory card so could only hold a couple pics at the resolution we had it set at, the rest are from my phone.

Hard to make out, but the Stanley Hotel backed up to the mountain in the distance there (inspired Steven Kings, the Shining"

Big donkey heard of Elk down in the lower valley with Longs Peak in the back. It was simply amazing to hear them all bugling. Being with the weather and the middle of the week, i just about had the park to myself, so that made it all the more special

I snuck up on them from the other side to get a bit closer, but not too close!
There was a big bull elk you can sort of make out there in the middle.

Then spotted these Big Horn sheep on my way home on 34, down at the base of the Big Thompson Canyon ( first i've seen of them coming down by the road)

Damn I'm jealous, I'm way up north and I still haven't had anything but a centimeter or two that melt away the same day :(

Awesome pics dirtyRU :raz:

I think if I woke to a day like that, I'd take the day off & go exploring too

Very jealous, the closest we get to snow is sticking your head in the freezer. As a matter of fact it's 10pm and 24 degrees centigrade  and it's not summer yet

^^I know what you mean OutbackOiler :bcool:
I have a feeling this summer, here down under, on our side of the big pond, is going to be a very hot one indeed.

And yes I too am jealous that we don't get as much snow to play in.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Thanks fellas! I have to admit my seasonal time clock is waaaaay out of wack from moving up here. I feel like i should be able to walk outside and see all the homes lit up for christmas. If we were to get snow and constant temps like this back down in Central Texas, it wouldn't be for another 4 months! 4 more inches of snow this morning made everything even more beautiful.

The mud after snow and slushy roads are fun

Just so you know what I mean, at 8:30 this morning even the bloody lizards thought the ground was too hot to walk on

this poor little bugger was running for his life before his little lizard feet fried to the ground

Believe it or not there is still some snow in the Victorian snowfields for 'real' - ie cross country  - skiing.

Awesome pics Matt. Colorado looks an amazing place! I'd imagine Subaru's would be popular there....

Subarus are everywhere here in colorado . esp boulder and north of denver . just wish more of them would like to take them off roading

Was this weather event the western event that has contributed to the impending 'Frankenstorm' on the east coast?
Stay safe those of you in the effected areas.

Thanks! Yes they are very popular here. All our trips we had previously taken to the mountains out here is what convinced me to buy a Subaru. I figured if they were good enough to tackle the Rockies, then they could handle anything the hills in central TX. Plus i was already in plan mode for moving out here, so i wanted to make sure we had atleast one vehicle that was suitable out here for the adverse weather we can have out in these parts.
I love Colorado, although i'm finding alot of the people here (mostly the abundant loud mouthed northerners) are real pr**ks that have absolutely no shame in them at all in the way they behave and treat other people. Fortunately, my love for the mountains and weather overlooks those a$$holes & helps keep me level. :iconwink:
