g'day our latest forester has an after market exhaust that looks to be shop
made. its from the catback and from the measurements at the tip its 2.5". it sounds very average to me and would like to change it in the very near future.

is this too big? i dont know a lot on exhaust but i think it maybe. i believe stock is just below 2"?

so my questions are what is the optimal exhaust size for a 2.5 N/A forester?

is the 2.5" thats on it too big for back pressure?

thanks in advance Thunder

Yes 2.5" is too big for an N/A. Personally I'd go with a 2' 1/4" from the catback. Go with a straight through muffler and large hot dog resonator. Will be slightly louder than stock but not even close enough to attrack attention :D

My 2 cents worth and what I plan to do.

You pretty much just described my exhaust there 2 1/4 cat back straight through and a hot dog. Didn't have the resonator to begin with and the droning eventually have me a headache I couldn't put up with

You could try putting a muffler on the end of the exhaust that's got a smaller outlet than the inlet - this will help reduce the sound without the need for a whole new exhaust.

I don't think 2.5 inches is too big for an EJ25 NA - so long as it's been setup properly by someone that knows what they're doing rather than from a customer that's strictly requested that setup.

thanks for the idea bennie i think thats what i will do, called the exhaust shop $150 for a 2" muffle installed or about $300 for the catback system. think i will go just the muffler should quite it down a bit and provide more back pressure
