Alright guys, what is the consensus on what pressure your tyres should be when doing beach driving. I have always had vehicles that it was a disadvantage to drop the pressure on the beach but as I am about to pop my subaru off road cherry I would love to know what experienced subaruists have to say :)

Your input would be greatly appreciated as I am not fond of getting stuck:lildevil:

If sand is dry, I'd probably start between 16-18psi... If you get yourself in trouble, I have brought it down to as low as 10psi, wouldn't go any lower.

On 14psi I've had a bit of sand enter under the bead of the tyre and it kept losing pressure all the time thereafter. But that was while doing a few doughnuts, so if you play it safe, you'd be fine...

^ Agreed. I usually run at about 16psi and drop them before I hit the sand(unless I cbf, but then I usually get stuck and have to air them down..)

Sometimes if your really struggling I'd stop before you possibly get stuck and drop them to 12psi. If your really in the sh*t then 8-10psi but don't turn sharp or fast. I find its a good idea to pump them back up to 14-16psi after as you don't want a tyre to come off the rim, its not fun changing a tyre in the sand :iconwink:

Take some pics while your out too.

I'd keep pressures above 20 to start with. Let the terrain dictate pressure from there. I wouldn't go lower than 10 front and 8 rear. Removing 1 psi makes a bigger difference as your pressure gets lower so make your adjustments more finite.

Be careful at the lower end of the spectrum with your turbo power, you could spin the wheels in the tyres and throw out the balance. youll be more suceptable to damaged rims too with the low profile tyres.

Well, I left them at full pressure and had a bloody ball

with pressure in my tyres I could try out my drifting skills which is harder than you think in a 4wd on the beach:lol:

Yeah on sand like that I'd be keeping 36 in mine.......soooooo much fun. Check this old vid of my Lib, 36lb all day and never even looked like slowing down.
