I'm sure you've seen this video of an Evo rally car saving an off, it's pretty impressive..

Well, on Tuesday, I had a similar off while driving some back country dirt roads. My tires were, well, not "suitable" anymore (2yr old all seasons worn down to almost slicks), and as luck had it, they didn't stick on one particular corner.. I came up on it in 3rd gear doing about 25-30mph not planning on "crazy" and the front tires just did not turn and I headed straight for the outside ditch. Well, the rally instinct kicked in, I've dropped a gear, pitched the car sideways, and stood on the throttle hoping to stay away from the foot and a half drop into grassy "unknown". The baldies didn't grab, but it was enough to keep me from rolling the car. I've dropped the left rear into the ditch, straightened the car and rode the ditch about 20 yards before popping back onto the road over a drainage pipe that I've taken head on. Back on the road, the back end started to wander so i've pulled over to inspect the damage. To my surprise, besides a flat tire and a few scratches on the rear bumper, I had no damage!! Further inspection showed grass marks ABOVE the windows which means I've definitely rode on two wheels at least for a moment  I'm glad I go by McRae's favorite quote "When in doubt, flat out!!" because it definitely saved me from some big trouble there :bcool: I just wish I had some video because that was one epic save.. Oh well, enjoy some after shots ;)

The ditch (notice my tire marks going in at the top and A tire mark coming back out at the bottom)

The exit (what you can't see is the drainage pipe at the end)

Believe it or not, the car tracks straight, the alignment doesn't seem to be affected (i will take it in soon to have it checked, but I've been planning on doing so for a while). I have not found any other damage after I layed under it yesterday for couple hours.
When in doubt, flat out!!

Sounds like you had an epic save SubaCool

Great to hear that you (& your Subi) came out relatively unscathed :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Glad you made it out just fine, and the car, mostly all fine.

Guess you'll be gettin' some new tires.:iconwink:

Bloody lucky mate!

Good thing it wasn't followed by a sphincter release too

Sounds like a great save Subacool!

Believe it or not, i have grown a thick skin when it comes to these "oopsie" moments. Racing for a long time will do that to you. I was actually surprised how calm I've stayed during and after the whole thing. It wasn't as much of a "oh sh.t" moment as it was a "damn it, not again" ;-)

You're probably talking about the 112th as that is right behind or house. Fun road for sure ;-)

Exactaly rite . i lived over off 96th and larado for two years . i loved playing on that road in the snow .i actualy took a few laps around second creek t:discomonkey:rack too
