So I was at Subaru today ordering some bits and pieces for my new toy and I have been told that they have stopped making bonnet protectors for the XT's, but the XS one is still available. My question to you wonderful people is what is the difference because I was certain they had the same bonnet, only diffence being the scoop or is the XT one different to the others at the front?

Gidday OO

I would have thought so too.

My MY06 SG has an aluminium bonnet (and different from yours).
SWMBO's MY10 SH has a steel bonnet (along with all the other niceties that have gone MIA since my model. I call it "the Accountant's Pack" ... ). Hers has a bonnet protector fitted.

Just be aware that they are bloody hard to clean under without removing them (I passed on that last wash). Seems to me that the clips are designed to just pull off/push on, but I reckon that it would be very easy to break the protector while doing that ...

Then you have to line the clips up with the plastic protection stickers when re-fitting so that you don't damage the paintwork ... Which is why you have the bonnet protector in the first place :raz:  :raspberry: ...

I did this, just through it in the bin after, same with the headlight protectors.

I have been doing a lot of picture searches to see if I can find the difference and to me it seems that the XT protectors do not have a lip that scoops up on them which looks like it has to do with air flow to the intercooler, now I am only going off a lot of crappy pictures If anyone has a bonnet protector on a XT could you please confirm this.

Cheers

Mine had one of the plastic ones originally, but after the clips damaged the paint, i opted to replace it with a nice vinyl/bra type. They come off super quick for cleaning and have saved my hood from many dings on rocks. Unfortunately, it did nothing to help deflect when that deer hit me!

Picked mine up at autoanything.com for around $30 i think, have had no tearing or wear issues on it in the 2yrs it's been on the hood. Not abrasive at all.

Thats a thought does the padded fabric stop the denting as well? Australia is not known for its fantastic roads and the roads in north Queensland are particularly crap, I have never been through so many windscreens as I have up here. The fact is the plastic protectors have done there job many a time for me, one car I replaced the bonnet protector 4 times and 3 headlight protectors in a year just from been smashed by rocks off oncoming traffic. and that is just within 200km radius of townsville.

g'morning OO and All,
in this case, it's prob'y not the fit up front but the aerodynamics beyond.
Any changes to the shape up front affect everything downstream ...including the inter-cooler intake on top of the hood (er ... bonnet)
So, what's ok for the NA maybe notso for the turbo, in the eyes of Subaru (and Sir Isaac Newton).

There was quite a bit of talk on subaruforester.org forum a few years ago about bonnet protectors not being suitable for the XT because of airflow issues to the intercooler scoop. Why don't you fit one and see if it's true?

I have figured out that they had different designs for the XT's for that reason. As I posted previously, the non turbo has a kicked up lip on it and the turbo ones are flat.
