With subaru turbo's particularly a 2003 XT forester is it worthwhile installing a timer or is it a waste of money ?
Are turbo timers necessary

not needed. the turbo in your foz will continue to be water cooled after the engine is off . I think its called thermal siphoning that is why the coolant check tankis higher than the turbo. drive your car gently for a minute or 2 before shutdown after a hard drive. Turbo timers are for old tech and riceboys

One thing to check though, do you guys have the filter screen at the banjo bolt like american turbos do?

You don't need a timer if you do one thing after a hard drive. before shutting off the car count slowly to ten. By by that time the turbo would have spooled down. This will extend your turbo life.
