Only one of the backlights is out behind the heat and gas gauge on a 05 Forester. Would that be wiring or a bulb. How much work is involved in changing a bulb? Also cabin gauges light up but stereo buttons don't. Any ideas where to start, possabiltities, or level of work is greatly apprectiated

Gidday mate

A warm :welcome: to the ORS.

Obviously, check all the fuses ...

The dash lights are simple to change, they just plug in to the back of the instrument nacelle in a bayonet mounting holder that attaches directly onto the circuit board at the rear.

The problem is getting at them ...

With my Impreza, I found that the easiest way to change them was to remove the instrument nacelle.

Just make sure that you disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so before working in this area, as you will be working around the air bag wiring loom and sensors. My Impreza (1993) didn't have air bags etc, so a lot simpler for these simple things.

Accidentally triggering an air bag can cause serious injury or death.

thanks for the info. Any tips to getting at the nacelle. do i have to remove the dash?

Gidday again mate

DG tells you how to do it here with an Impreza (a procedure I know only too well!).

With my model Impreza, it was also necessary to disconnect the speedometer cable, and the various electrical connectors to the instrument nacelle.

As you do not mention the model and year of your car, it is hard for anyone to be more specific in helping you with fixing this irritating thing.
