On my "L" series MPFI auto, the check light has come on. I have read the code and it indicates a problem with the speed sensor. does anyone know where this beast lives? And is it ok to drive while I collect money to pay for parts and/or repairs?

what year subaru?

if its OBDII it has dual electronic sensors in the tranny. If its before then its one in the speedo head and one in the tranny.

You wont have AWD but the car is driveable.

DOes your spedo work?

Does the L also have speed sensors in the wheels? I can vaguely recall I had an issue with speed sensors at one of the rear wheels and after a good blasting with the hose around the back of the wheel the problem was solved.

wheel sensors are for the ABS, unless its newere then 2002 and has fancy AWD, then its tied into the awd system. It has no effect on the spedo.

pre 1995 you have a speed sensor and a cable with the 2nd sensor in the spedo head (for autos). 1995 or newer you have two sensors in the tranny. If one fails the other takes over. If it is a manual there is only one.
