Hello all

I have an 02 forester with about 70K on the clock.
It was running a little rough recently and I took it to my nearest subaru dealer in Brisbane who could find anything wrong but noted that the timing belt had not been replaced. Time, rather than km seemed to be the issue. I was told the cost for this service would be about $1300.

Does this price sound about right?

Cheers

yeah thats about right. he probably included the water pump aswell (hopefully) as you'd do that while their in there. ring around and see what other prices you get. thats not a bad price if your in Sydney.(especially from a dealer)

My 05 XT Forry is due for the big one (100k) in a month or so & I have been quoted $1,250 to have it done. $1,300 for a non turbo seems to be a little high to me.(I'm guessing you have a non turbo)
My suggestion would be to do some shopping around & you should be able to get it done for a little less. From what I've heard, (but I could be mistaken though) a non turbo is usually around the $900-$1,000 mark.

Regards
Mr Turbo

And yes make sure (as eden said) that they check the water pump while they are at it.

Regards
Mr Turbo

also is the car second hand and you know the service history? could just need a new air filter, fuel filter, get the injectors blasted and a oil change?? just a suggestion :)

Or an upper cylindar clean. This can make a huge difference.

$1300.00 is too dear in my opinion, it didn't cost me that much for the 100,000km service on my 03 XS Forester but then again the Aussie $ was worth a lot more back then too so imported parts will be dearer today so keep that in mind too.

But Gecko, give Andrew a call out at Boxer Service in Brendale he knows Subaru's inside out and won't let you waste money on things that don't need doing I cannot recommend his work highly enough, I even drive down to there from the Sunshine Coast for him to Service my 03 XS Forester and so does my mate in his 05 Impreza.

Here are some more Customer Reviews.

I'm glad your happy with Boxer Service Gecko and yes they are honest and genuine people to deal with.

I was looking around recently for our 05xt 100k service and the price range was $900 (private) to $1650 (subaru). It certainly pays to shop around! I found a few trusted non-dealer places mentioned on gtrydaz or impreza wrx club forums and happliy departed the dealer network.

OMG

Here in the USA my last timing belt was 750.00 including
Water pump
Timing Belt
Idler
Tensioner
Cam seals
Main Seal
Re-seal the oil pump.

I know with the exchange rate that its almost double, but still.
