G'day all,

Well, at about 8:58pm EST I felt an earthquake, can't keep up with it on facebook. I've read on facebook it was 5.2 magnitude (by the website below).

So far I've heard from mates in Eildon, Lakes Entrance, Melbourne, Wangarratta that have also felt it. Crazy stuff!

Keen to hear more about it in the media. I wonder what's going on with the earth at the moment - plenty of action going on, volcanoes last year (or year before), earthquakes in NZ and a couple of small ones in melbourne SE suburbs as recent as the last two years or so...

Cheers

Bennie

Just went outside to see if there was any damage. Four strange looking blokes on horseback wearing cloaks and a dog rooting a cat. Just another night in North Melbourne.

BTW the H6 foz is OK.

Yeah mate, TV still on, internet still connected. All is good!

5.2 by the website Thunder's provided! Better edit my original post.

Cheers

Good to hear mate, it's not like it needs another spray job anytime soon is it?

I felt it at photo club tonight.
Estimated it to be around magnitude 4.8. Seems I wasn't all that far out.

Several main shocks; followed about 30 seconds later by a to and fro motion of much less intensity that lasted for around 20~30 seconds.

Interesting phenomena, intra-plate quakes ... Interesting to me, anyway :iconwink:

Wow, hope everyone was alright and the damage isn't isn't too bad.

Regards,
Taza

Nowhere near as bad as Newcastle (5.6) or Meckering, WA (6.9).

Had Meckering been in a highly populated area it could've been devastating.

9.9km down just near trafalgar (biegewagon)

I was already at SES training night. We all felt it then very quick change of plans, then out on jobs unitl 1 o'clock this morning. Didnt see any media coverage of it, was too busy in amongst the clean up.

No damage at home, but the epicentre has bee reported to be in about 4 places. The closest is about 4 or 5 kms from home.

The world / weather down here is nuts. Flooding 2 weeks ago, and more flooding 2 weeks before that, now this. Busy month so far.

Beigewagon.

Yes Carl,

Most of the damage around here is just cracked plaster, and a few cracks in brick walls. The Safeway Supermaket had stuff fallen in the ailses, and some of the false ceiling fell in. No major structural damage reported anywhere yet.

Beigewagon.

At least one after-shock felt in Melb this evening.
Apparently have been many today - par for the course after a 'quake.

The thing about intra-plate quakes is that they are generally felt over a much larger area than fault or plate-edge quakes. I live in Vermont, USA and felt the quake in Virginia/DC awhile back and that was 550 miles (885 kms) away. The Earth seems to entering a period of great activity. Glad all is well in Australia and no one was injured.
