Hi guys, Was just looking for some tips about putting the foresters air intake into the front gaurd like the jdm models had. would this help at all with water crossings in conjunction with a bra or a tarp? I'm putting in diff/gearbox breathers this week and if its worth while i might moddify the air intake.

Welcome! Yes, it would help. My MY'03 was able to suck water straight across the top of the engine bay mounted snorkus box and hydrolocked. They went back to the design where the intake dropped into a guard mounted snorkus box after my model. Prior to mounting my snorkel I used pvc pipe, bends and flexible hosing to divert my intake to the rear top corner of the guard.

I've been trying to get mine out from the guard and put it up high for water crossings. I've been looking at a snorkel setup for my L series. While the factory setup has done ok with a bra or tarp it'll be no good for those times when you get stuck and ingest water - I've been very close to this before and was very lucky!

I'm guessing that your from the US, I remember that most foresters have their air intake on the RHS of the vehicle - our driver's side (because it's right).

Cheers

Might help if you could update your profile with town, state country in case you need something

I'll have to deck out what bits of pipe I've got around and see what works. should I go just to the guard or put a pipe right up into the top of the guard? Would going into the top of the guard limit induction

"just down the road" from me :D

Maybe you'll see my subi around when the mt inn opens again :D I'm looking forward to that!

So what model forester have you got?

Cheers

Why not just remove the snorkus going to your stock air box and then the car sucks from high in the inner guard, it's all I've done and works great, also saves you removing the wheel and inner guard every time you want to clean it.

97 SF, pretty stock besides tires and just changed out the struts for new kybs and king springs. 200000km. Bought it about a year ago at 150000km, then dropped it on a rock in the cobaw sf, wrecked the exhaust so got a 2.25'' straight Thro cat back. It's my MTB machine camping and abut of touring is mostly what I use it for. As well as my daily driver, so if I move the airbox I dont want to make the old boy choke
