just for fun, ive been toying with the thought of putting over cab lights on my 02 obw.. has anyone done this in the past? any thoughts for or against would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the overhead lights off of a 3/4 ton Dodge or some Hella's?

Hella's yes, Ram lights no, lol.

Being in the truck lovin drivin state of Oklahoma, i'll take it that you're talkin about cab lights like on a truck. 00 Outback did them on his, however i haven't seen him on in over a year. Check out his profile to see his pic with them on.

hi mate ive just done a diy job on my 96 outback . i will post a full quide soon as when i wanted to do this there wasnt much info at the time . so far ive made my own wiring loom for 4x55w lights mounted to a home made lightbar . with its own switch not running off the high beams at all as its for fishing and offroad trips. and ill have another report on making your own roof racks. and led strip lighting for the wagon boot that runs off the 12v socket on the sidewall of the boot with its own switch..

stay posted ill have it ready with full pictures very soon

I'd put an LED light bar up there these days... 4x lights up there are old skool :iconwink:
Especially when the light bar puts out more than double the light and is around the same price as 4 decent Hella's, Narva's or Light Forces..

Just bolt what ever you use to a roof rack cross bar.. then run the wiring down near the window and into the engine bay.
If you do run 4x spotties use 2 relays and 3x 30amp fuses. yYou don't want to set your car on fire by burning out the wiring.

will this work ???

hey taza
atm ive got 4x 55w halogens on the roof controlled by one 40a relay and a 20a inline fuse and im using think marine grade tin cable????

So thats 220W total...I'm running 260W off a single 40A relay with a 30A fuse...I think 20A is a bit light.
The main thing is use heavy gauge wire to reduce voltage loss. It only takes a very small voltage loss to get a large light output loss. You also wont have to worry bout melting wires...

When you get some $$$ go the LED lightbar, they're hard to beat & look VERY cool :bcool:

Am I the only one who hates the look of LED lightbars? But they do seem very effective :)

ive got high voltage marine grade cable from jaycar

so my set up is ...

4x 55w h3 halogens. on a 20a fuse 1 inch from the + terminal. a 40a 4 pin relay . and a 20a led rocker switch . they are stand alone lights not connected to my driving lights .

i will be posting a full diy for a 96-98 outback as i couldnt find much info when i started . lucky ive wired up a few cbs and radios before to help me out
