After speaking with my mechanic he is not so fussed with KYB struts and is pushing me towards Ultima. Has anyone had any dealings with either of these?
Going to fit them with standard king springs and a 2 inch strut block.

I have KYBs and they offer a great ride. One of my struts in the rear was defective and collapsed, its in the process of doing a warranty job now. Everyone i dealt with was very helpful.

KYB make some good stuff. I have them on both my cars. I have not heard of Ultima and no one I know uses them

KYB make the factory Subaru struts. They're definitely a good quality option.

I bent a rear strut on the weekend so was thinking I might go with Ultima SG struts. Time to revive this thread & see what others have thought about them

I remember someone used them on here (it was thunder before his foz was written off) when in a pinch and had good things to say. I know a few people who've used them as an oe replacemtn on falcodores and still going strong. I'm thinking of trying them in the rear of mine to level out the saggy butt, and at 200 for a pair with new bump stops it's not like I'm loosing out much if they only last 30-40,000km's, I'm 40,000km's down with new bump stops and dust boots, something which kyb's don't come with.

Damn, just bought two rear kyb. I might try these on the front eventually.

My bad, that was the price when i checked in the first half of this year. 220-230 is the best i can find atm. Still pretty good, I got my kyb's from supercheap auto for 160 each delivered

If you get lucky hunting around and time is on your hands, you can get Sachs shocks. I paid $150 each for my fronts and $160 each for my rear's . They are normally a $200ea plus shock.

sorry that's 220 a pair for ultimas. 160 each for kyb's

Not bad, I got my rear KYB shocks off Rockauto for $62US each, plus shipping. Total was $297NZ including shipping. Best I could find, including eBay and alternative brands. Arrived today, they look pretty solid. Can't wait for my Kings! I had a rather saggy, bouncy trip to the Routeburn and back on my old suspension with 4 people and gear in the weekend.

International shipping from Aus is a real killer for me. But, sure beats the $220 rear/$240 front PER STRUT I was quoted locally for the KYBs. For that price I could have expected genuine Subaru...

kiwifoz, Scooby2 has KYBs, and I must say I am very impressed with the ride/stability on both tar and dirt. Initially put them in because we were doing a fair bit of towing, but the last 5,000kms or so have been with no load on behind and just a pleasure to drive.

Best regards,

Sweet, hopefully the springs arrive before Christmas.
