Just a few photos of the trip up to the gulf. Not many fish of legal size were caught but even some people with boats didn't catch any barra, so we were ahead of them even though we were shore bound. The road from the Barkley highway across to Gregory and then up to Burketown is just over 400ks long and about 300ks of it, dirt. I noticed a ding in the passenger side exaust manifold from a particularly deep rut made by a dump truck in mud that is now hard rock like ground since the wet season is over. But the wagon definitely did well floating over some windy dirt roads at about 85kph
We stopped at a bridged creek crossing to cool our feet and stretch out.
We thought this sign was a bit of a laugh..
Arrival at the "secret" fishing spot
This is where our first barra was caught, location undisclosed but notice the high banks way out of reach of any uninvited crocs...
My mate with his first ever Barra as you can see he's slightly happy
Decent sunsets too:
Was a good trip but the fishing a little dissapointing probably best to have a boat but we did better than some of the people we camped next to who did have them. Next month we're going closer to Karumba and with a boat too so maybe I'll catch that 12kg barra then
BUT you shoulda seen the one that got away!! haha
