This Saturday I headed North to Stockton Beach for a day on the sand dunes and had an awesome time under clear skies. I ended up taking my folks with me as I've been meaning to take them up there for a while now. They absolutely loved it.

Most of the footage was captured using a GoPro HD Hero II mounted on the car using a suction cup mount. You can see it gets the colours really well.

As usual, I did need to pull over and let it cool down after about an hour of traveling with the direction of wind (so no air going in the front). So we sat back, grabbed lunch from the fridge and stretched our legs for a bit.

On the video you'll see me having two visibly pathetic attempts at getting up a mild sand dune and failing. It looks pathetic, but the cause for this was an aggressive approach angle that was required at the bottom of the dune. Now the Outback has a large front overhang (not blaming the car as it was never designed for this!) so as a result, I had to brake before the dune (the last thing you want to do!) because the car was bottoming out and hence I didn't have enough puff to get it to the top.

The impact (caught on camera) was not bad at all. I was surprised it cracked so easy but then I remember it was fractured from a previous incident which is why it let go so easily.

Apart from that, the Subie performed very well as always, putting the larger 4WD's to shame by carrying a load of people + luggage and traveling solo forging its own tracks in the sand. I saw many loaded up 4WD's struggling in the soft sand where the Outback was light on its feet (despite being heavier than I've ever had it before!) and making it look easier.

The money shot (my money going down the drain, haha..)

Sorry to hear about the damage Shiv
Apart from that, it looks & sounds like you had a great time.

Great pics too mate :)

Glad to hear you had fun & put the big (& heavy lol) 4WDs to shame! Our little Subies float across the sand whereas they have to plough through it :monkeydance:

Sorry to hear bout the bumper. OBs do have a mighty big overhanging bumper but a SubaXtreme bumper would change that. Phizinza was also going to do a much cheaper, more basic bar to increase clearance, maybe send him a PM

Nice, I would've loved to have come up for the day as I've only been ocne before (and a few people here probably remember that trip) but it was the first weekend I hadn't worked in a month so had plans. At least you had absolutely perfect weather for it. I was out at Malabar and was loving the bright blue, clear water and not a cloud to be seen.

Re the bumper, you could have it plastic welded to at least ensure it doesn't get worse.

I have my old bumper sitting in the shed if you want it for cheap, its got scratches underneath it though where i scraped some rocks etc with it and a little bit of paint peeling on it, could also be the wrong colour, the silver/grey bottom comes in two different colours on the outback....Mines the goldier colour one, we could do a run on Stockton and i could bring it with me, we could destory yours further, rip it off the fun way and then replace it with mine haha

The weather was pretty much perfect, which was nice for a change!

Haha, I love the idea of finishing off my bumper properly. I may as well give it a good old thrashing before chucking it out. Thanks heaps for the offer but I just remembered that yours is the pre-facelift style so yeh its the different colour and slightly different style.

Yes I remember that trip apsilon :o

I think I know this trip you're referring too. But lets not go there....

Looks like a great trip on the beach!!!

The Go-Pro cameras do a great job, and I love the sound of the H6.

Subies love the sand for sure! Looks like you have a great excuse to replace the bar now ;-)
