My dad and I just purchased an Australian BJ40 land cruiser (diesel version of the fj40). It is right hand drive and is gonba e a really fun little build:)

I am not abandoning my forester at all, this is just another project and fun ride.

I will post pics soon!

It is a 1978 sand color w/ white roof and ambulance doors. We are gonna work on power steering, 33x10.5 km2's on stock steelies, 4in lift, possibly a spring over lift later.

Side note: if anyone in AUS could help me source a full power steering kit for the RHD bj40 that would be awesome!!

Thanks,

Sounds like it will be a fun project mate :)

Look forward to seeing the pics when you get a chance too

Cool!!!

I saw one of those (don't know what year it was) around here a while ago, I was green with envy. Can't wait to see some pics.

That will be fun! My first "proper" 4WD was an FJ40 short wheel base. I brought it brand-new and was also around 1978; I traded it a couple of years later for a Range Rover.

We used to use them underground around that time, 79-81, SWB locked in low range 1st - 3rd so you can imagine the thrashing they took, we'd go through a set of shockies at least once a week and springs once month but bulletproof little diesels.

yeah, i am deciding against SOA because it will cost SO much to do it right, and the last thing i want to do is do it wrong.

thanks plazaxt! Luke at 4x4labs was super helpful!

kevin:( you traded a land cruiser for a range rover?

Well it goes like this; in the FJ40 I was trying to exit a beach via a steep sand bank without success. After several attempts an onlooker says "only a Range Rover would get up there" - 'nuff said

Lookin' great!!! Love the color matched steelies, that is going to look much better than the chrome on it now.

It the same as mine, same colour too - brings back some great memories.

carl, it looks like they are color matched in the first pic, but the wheels are actually painted the stock grey color. and there are chrome hubcaps that i have not put on yet:)
