My local paper did a review on used Foresters- in this case the MY03-MY05. While he did mention the head gasket issue, he also went on about how cars with sludge in their engines is due to poor maintenance and how bad this all is. If you did not know better you'd think this was unique to Subaru's! Almost nothing was mentioned of how good they are to drive on the road, and little more was said on how good they were off road. To me they are a remarkable little car that does almost everything very well. As I said about my Newnes trip- they certainly surprised a number of those in the big 4WD's. And having driven the big 4WD's I much prefer the little Forrie. Having driven a Camry (loan car- had no choice), the Forrie is so much better than that too.
