KYB strut part nos. for 2" lift?

Trying to do a bit of forward planning on adding another inch of lift (currently have Ironman 35mm lift springs) to my '99 SF in the next few weeks, and I can't work out exactly which part numbers I need for the struts. My stock SF units are on their last legs anyway, so it's giving me a convenient excuse to just take care of all of them at once.

If I understand correctly, at the front I can use the KYB GR2 struts normally specified for an SF, but with the SG struts on the rear - does this sound correct? I will eventually be bumping up one tyre size, so spring perch clearance is a consideration. FWIW, I already have 16" wheels and regular (i.e., not self-levelling) suspension.

From reading through KYB's parts selector, I get the following part numbers for an SF:

Front Right: 334189
Front Left: 334190
Rear Right: 334191
Rear Left: 334192

For SG struts, it claims I need the following:

Front Right: 334370
Front Left: 334371
Rear Right: 334344
Rear Left: 334345

So, mixing the two, I end up with:

Front Right: 334189
Front Left: 334190
Rear Right: 334344
Rear Left: 334345

Does this sound right? I haven't been able to find anywhere that breaks it out in terms of which part numbers to order, so have no clue if I'm on the right track or not.

Yep that sounds right. I wish SOOO much that I'd done that. Now when I upsize my tyres I'll have to get 2 new struts! :(

But I dont get how you can have 16" rims on your SF struts... Are they low profile tyres?

Did you get new struts when you got the kings put in?

You can fit 215/75R15 (28") which are slightly smaller than 215/70R16 (28.5"). You can also fit 225/70R15 (27.8") or like my 215/70R15 (27.5)
Stock is 205/70R15 (26.5")

You can fit the 215/70R15 with the SF KYB sturts. Just need to knock the spring perch in slightly with a block of wood and a hammer. Seen it done on an SF that had BFG 215/70R15, 2" sturt lift blocks and raised Kings. Was a beast but I also read it was slightly lacking in power due to the tyre size being so much bigger.

Yep new SF struts all round.

Not sure if I can go up much in size, only bout 11mm between the tyre & spring perch. Dont really want to knock it in lol :iconwink:

But if it saves you the cost of having to get new ones when they are already new. You could fit 215/70R15 and 225/70R15 without any rub at all. I know this for a fact.

215/75R15 will rub slightly but that can easily be modified. The front will be fine its just the rears.

With 225/70R15 you will have about a 2-3mm gap which is enough  :iconwink:

If it helps, I'm kicking myself that I didn't do this when the Ironman springs went in a few months ago. Wasn't sure then that I'd be going to 2" on it soon enough to warrant strut replacement, so I get to do it twice. Ah well; should've listened to myself.

No, they're the stock size - 215/60R16. AFAIK, only the top-level trim got 16" wheels from the factory (in the US, anyway) in 1999. There's somewhere around 0.75" of clearance at the rear spring perch, so my only reasonable option (on SF struts) is a 215/65R16 - which doesn't give many good options for a decent A/T (or close) tyre. More perch clearance, more choices ;)

Yes.

ok. i have the same 16inch rims on my forester. for people in aus they are the rims from the gt. i have put in the lifted springs, but if i wanted to put in All terrains tires will i have to put in a strut lift? or will i have to use my old 15inch rims?

Rim diameter is totally irrelevant to overall diameter. You need to be looking at tyre size and its diameter. you could have 20inch or 12inch rims and with the right tyres on each they'd both have the same overall diameter and clearance. Rims only matter for offset, brake clearance and stud pattern. Offset might make a difference for strut clearance but it still doesn't relate to diameter as such.

Were rim size comes in is in terms of what type and size are available. E.g 15's have more choice for brand and size of offroad tyre, 16's there is a lot fewer options for offroad tyres.

Check out the General Grabber AT2 in that size, it is a great offroad tire!

Thanks to everyone who cleared that up for me.

Next question: is there any reason (fitment would be the main one, I'm assuming) not to go with SG struts all-around?

You would need SG springs and tophats if you went with SG struts in the front.

Good to hear, because those were the ones I'd settled on  What I really wanted was another set of BFG T/A KOs, but they don't have them in a 16" that'll fit these rims. The Grabbers looked to be closest in pattern and construction, so they won.
