So I got an '83 GL wagon. Put the SJR 4" lift on and havent come up with a good solution for hooking the steering back up yet. Anyone out there done this?

4" lift?!

We need photos!

From what I've read in other threads I think you will need a steering extension which you should be able to get from where you purchased the lift.

Was it a full body lift or only struts?

G'day sasquatch86 & :welcome: to ORS.
Sorry I can't help you at all with info from your question, but I'm sure someone on here will pop in & be able to give you an answer :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

So it is a full body lift. I contacted SJR and they assured me that all I need to do is extend the steering shaft. I can see how this works on EA82s, but the angles just aren't lining up for me.

Thanks!

I find it odd that they've sold you a lift without the steering extension - that's a pretty important component right there!

Nachaluva, check out Butter's 8 inch lift - pretty damn high for an L series.

I would say that this is a full body lift as the MY's and L's don't take to strut only lift like the EJ series subarus can/do.

I hope you've got something sorted for it sasquatch. I've got a 3 inch lift in my L series, the lift came with the steering extension...

Cheers

Thanks for the link! The only other solution I found was a double rag joint like the one he did. I just don't feel like it would last very long. I think I'm going to head to the junk yard tomorrow and see if i can incorpirate the three peice steering form a newer subaru.

My brother lifted his EA81 wagon 2 inches. For the steering he cut, sleeved and welded part of it. Just had it in place in the car and tack welded the sleeve in place to make sure the dimensions were right.

Well I haven't come up with a solution I'm satisfied with yet but I'm pretty unsatisfied with the SJR lift. I bought the kit for the sole perpis it would be a complete kit. Would not recommend this kit for EA81s.
I'll keep thinking about the steering but I swapped out my 4speed dr with a 5speed dr and am now looking for a donor car with an EJ22. Anyone know where I can find sone good deals?

Not quite what you are after as I believe it is an Ea82 but...

Have no idea what this kit is for but google images through it out as a reply and it looks like one I've seen on a BRAT on UltimateSubaru before.

This is for a Legacy, but shows close up what they did to extend the shaft.

I <3 Google :Bananacomputer:

I figured out the steering issue. I found mid '90s legacy and pulled the double jointed part of the steering shaft, cut it in half and welded about 5" of tubing to it. I should have done this ages ago. Next step is drilling my 4x140mm hubs to 6x139.7mm hubs!

Glad to hear you got it sorted. Are you happy with the lift now?

PS: we need photos

I'm happy with the lift but would not spend that money again. It would have been very easy to make myself. I had some braided brake lines made and found some Puegeot rims to I didn't have to drill my hubs.
