Hi offroaders,

I'm looking to setup two Hellas as additionnal driving lights for longer ranges, however I'm looking for tips on the following:

- They must be easy to remove (the basket is removed for daily drive use)
>>> What kind of plugs I should use that won't fail with rain, yet that don't cost an arm (I've seen $100+ waterproof plugs...)

- I already have a set of driving lights on a lightbar (not wired yet, will be shortly) and I am considering adding utility lights at the rear of the basket for camping and other various uses in the wood
>>> How should I wire all that?

Attaching them to the roof basket will be easy so there's no issue on that part.

Also, I was considering using the central console's empty switch slots (see attachement) instead of rigging ghetto switches elsewhere. Is it something hard to do? I'd get the switches most likely from the scrapyard.

Please note that I am myself quite clueless (which is why I'm asking for your help) but this will be done with a friend who's a mechanic and has worked quite a lot on Subarus (although not specifically not on offroad light setups).

Thanks!

For rear lights you could possibly wire them up to the reverse lights as you would your front facing spotlights?

Typically used in off road and racing are "weather pack" connectors. They have little rubber gaskets to seal off. I'm planning on running on fozz and currently have them on the rally car

They usually can be found a local 4wd shop like 4 wheel parts or off road warehouse, in US at least

I have two hella 500s on my roof rack. I wired the lights on the rack and then connected them with a plug to the wire running down the windshield gasket. I just used a two prong plug that is similar to a trailer connector. I have had the lights up there for a few months with no issue.

This is the style of plug I used.

If you're wondering why I chose this one, I found it in my garage so it was free.

As for my switch, I used an OEM fog light switch on one of the blank slots on the dash.

EDIT: Oh wow this is my first post. I should probably do an intro since I've been lurking here for ages.

Awesome guys! Just got the lights and everything setuped on the basket, now I need to run the wires... That'll be very helpful, thanks!

Before you wire up the rear lights I'd check what your laws are. I think (but not sure) here they cant be operated with the car in motion.

What are the 2 switches on your centre console? Look bit like seats...seat warmers?

& yeah definitely use relays AND fuses...

Well if I do add rear lights (just an idea for now), they'd be used mainly when I need lightning when outside the city (setting up camp and stuff like that) or backing up in tight forest roads. Plus I remove the basket for daily driving anyway.
