Hello,
After days of searching and researching threads and forums I am still a little bit at a loss. I am looking to lift my GT 2" because went on the beach the other day and got bogged due of clearance issues.
Just wandering if anybody has put just the 2" strut top blocks on their forester and if they have had any problems with cv joints etc afterwards????

Makes a good difference, but on the beach in a subaru is all about how you drive. They are light enough to make your own tracks, stay out of the ruts or ride them and you shouldn't get stuck. Remember, they are light, so tyres down to 16-18psi so they bag and properly and you can drive where you want.

Hi,
Nachulava I have done a lot of searching and reading on here in past posts. However often the thread starts out on the topic and steers to another. Havent been able to find many people or information about just having the 2" strut blocks on and nothing else, and whether it is giving any issues with cv's etc.
I am going to be putting 615/65 16 Geo's on it next week so just looking for the most cost effective way to get a bit of lift but don't want to have to be replacing parts because of it.
Got a quote for 2" strut blocks for $440

Absolutely loving the forum, really helpful and informative. I have spent numerous hours this week reading and researching.

2jz929 did you just do the strut block lift? If so, have you had any problems with cv's etc?

I just did the strut block lift, i had to replace the two front CV's shortly after, accept the car had 230k on it at the time. Once replaced i didn't have any more issues. Didnt effect handling etc. Actually made the car look like it should after i put the 215/65 Geos on. My thread is here if you haven't already seen it.

And a thing on how it went at Fraser

Didn't get stuck in the 600km we did on the island. Very capable on the sand for a softroader.

Thanks for the great links and threads 2jz929.
Its got me excited about getting the lift done. Can you remember how much you paid for your kit? And did you do the install yourself? If no, how much did that set you back?

Cheers again

Hi Spanks, welcome to the forum. I had the same issue as you with my 2001 Forester (non turbo, Limited unfortunately) in the deep sand tracks. I ended up getting raised heavy duty springs because my rear end of the car was all saggy after 10 years. Then added 1" strut lift blocks to get 2" lift in total.
You can either do it that way or 2" strut lift blocks. You can get the 2" blocks from Crossbred Performance. They are around $350 plus postage (which isn't really any more than $50 or there abouts). 2" makes a huge difference, especially with the deep rutty tracks which there are thousands of km of here in Western Australia. Also with a Subaru if you don't know that when you add 2" lift blocks it raises everything; diffs, gearbox, engine, everthing. So that way you don't drag anything along in the sand which is nice

I have had no CV problems or any issues for that matter since my lift other that slightly more body roll but its livable.

Geoff at crossbred should be able to give you a hand with what your looking for

Yeah mate, put it in myself. Quite easy to do, from memory, just unbolt the strut at the bottom (two bolts) then from the top. With the blocks on you will its fairly difficult to get the strut back in, but its doable.

The biggest thing is make sure the drive shafts dont fall out of the diff centre. If this happens, you will be hating life because they're a prick to deal with. Cant remember what i did, think i just put a chock under the drivenshaft and watched it carefully (after the first one fell out, damn it).
