Hello!

I recently purchased a 93 Legacy wagon and am thinking about raising it up a bit. Would like to know how big of tires could this car handle without having to change the suspension? Could I put bigger rims on it? I have been reading up on the lift kits and may go that route but wanted to know what my options are. Before I do that though I'll probably tint the rear windows. Thank you!

:lildevil:

BTW for those who are interested in this topic I know there is a lot of information on this site but here is another thread I found on the outbacksubaru website: https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/85-all-other-subaru-models/14983-92-legacy-lift-questions.html

G'day & welcome fringe

I'm not sure what the max size you could fit - but - keep in mind that with MacPherson struts the spring perch is the limiting factor, i.e. have a look at the gap between the top of the tyre and the bottom of the spring support and that is all you can fill with a larger tyre because no matter how you raise the vehicle, be it blocks, spring or even body lift, that distance remains fixed.

16" GT Forrester rims have a better offset, 48 against the WRX 53 which means the rims will stick out that little bit more allowing a slightly wider tyre I.E. 215x60 instead of 205x60, I'm running them on mine and a set can usually be had for $200-300.

So now I'm thinking to just go ahead and get different struts. I've been reading that the car could be raised about 2" with Outback struts. Does anyone know if Forester struts would work in a 1993 Legacy AWD wagon?

You'll need to change the top hats and add a thick washer because the Foz ones have a collar on them at the top, fronts will drop straight in, Outback rears may be easier but I'm not too sure if they have the same bolt pattern.

OK: Foz, check! wash(er), check! top hat, check!

lol just kidding ~ THANK YOU for the info. Actually the more information I get the more it seems this will be a reality for me soon. There's plenty of Outbacks around the Portland area, so I'm sure those parts won't be a problem. But I still have a lot to learn about the process. I just don't want to end up damaging the car. ;-)
