Mate this is what happens - maybe that damage would have been worse if the bar wasn't there, so on the owners part it was probably a good investment.

Yes I realise that you're after one but you can't look at busted units like that and feel this way all the time! You'll only get yourself down!

Haha i've been getting really worked up about getting a subaxtreme bar for my car too. I'm even giving some thought to buying a brand new one with my tax return... but dual range comes first i think. It's hard to justify 2,400 on a bullbar, thats like %50 the value of the car! I've decided that the best way to think about it is this: if i haven't ripped my plastic bumper bar off yet, then i didn't need a bullbar did i? and when i do i might use the insurance money to fund a bullbar.

Most bars for 4WDs are around the 1,500 mark, 2,000 for deluxe bars. I think i'll call some fabrication shops and get quotes to build one, i'm willing to bet it'll work out alot cheaper. It all depends if you have airbags or not though.

Yeah, I know what you mean a about really wanting a bar.
And around the 2.2k mark, thats quite alot when you compare to the ARB bars and what not. Damn I have having air-bags sometimes :raspberry:

Yes I believe your Dual-Range should come first as that will probably make a bigger difference.

I know Bennie I shouldn't be freaking about about wanting one this adly but I can't help it. Oh and you right that bar probably saved someones life and was probably a very good investment for them  By the looks it seems like something hit the car or the car hit something pretty hand hard too.

When you fit your bar you need to notify your insurance company, if you prang and damage the bar / write off the vehicle the value of the bar will be included in what is covered by your insurancce. This is true even for older vehicles, provided you have agreed value cover.
Venom, I understand where you are coming from about the bar being a considerable % of the value of the car however, look at it the other way - with an older vehicle you can fully 'kit' it for a total cost considerably below that of a newer car without any of the 'fruit'. Insure your kitted vehicle for what it is worth and you won't lose out if you bingle it - apart from whatever the excess is.

For that price you could get a decent mig welder that would do a good job, plus a grinder and most likely some sheet metal etc to get you a bar you're after.
The only difficulty would be the airbag part - but I think this might just be a crumple zone built into the bar's mount before it gets to the body mounts, you might be able to buy them from somewhere too if you look hard enough!

Don't worry Taza, I'm itching to get stuff too - such as my ******* box, I want that in Ruby Scoo yesterday! It's nothing but time and money as you'd already know!

Cheers
