G'day everyone,

Thought it about time I posted some pics of my L series - Ruby Scoo.

I got her about 5 years ago now, $500 - from good ol' Yakandandah. It had a shot engine so I converted it to MPFI still with the EA82 - hadn't found any forums at this stage.
Finally got her going, had a cam shaft 180 degrees out so it only ever ran on one side of the engine... Fun fun.

All sorted, I rebuild another MPFI engine and had it in the car Easter 2007, by mid December 2007 we'd cooked that engine due to a dud radiator on our way home from perth. Got towed from Tinanara, South Oz to Central Vic - RACV total care is sooo worth it!!!

So, some pics:

^ Later down the track, roo bar added, the alloy tyres (had a set of Marquois alloys 14 inch) worn out, on a uni student's budget I got these sunnies (set of 5) with good tyres HEAPS cheaper than 2 new tyres!

^ The most lift my L has seen so far, 3 inch lift is coming, just need some time. This image was taken on a track out at Mt Sugarloaf, near Axedale, Victoria.

^ Hanging out with mates last year on a 4wd outing in the Lake Eppalock area

^ Road side repairs after installing solid lifters - not a good idea on an MPFI. This was on our way to Perth, no mobile reception and since the advent of movies like Woof Creek no one wants to stop and give you a hand... 12hrs after pulling over and sleeping between repairing we were on the road again.

^ At the Perth End of Year BBQ, these are half the subaru's that made the event, was an awesome day and trip overall!

^ 4wd'n at Spring Gully, Benders, Vic, a few weeks back

^ And the last 4wd outing to the Cobaw Forest, Macedon Ranges, Victoria. Can't wait for the next one!

Future plans - 3 inch lift with 27 inch tyres, EJ20, AWD L box with lockable centre diff, rear disc brakes, electric windows/mirrors, remote central locking... Hopefully will all be in within the next year.

Cheers

Some pretty cool pics there, looks like you have a lot of fun :)

Not enough at times... I can't wait for my "upgrades" to happen... First things first though, gotta nail 7 uni assignments before end of Ocotober... Not so fun :shake:

While I'm doing those I'm going out for a weekend behind my pero's joint, I hope to make a video of that too...

Cheers

does it really snow in the land down under?

Yeah - that dump was right at the start of the season, I was lucky to be there. 12 cm or about 3 inches in 9 hrs. Ruby Scoo and the car park were bare 24 hrs before I took that photo. It was awesome weather and this year's snow season turned out to be one of the better ones - AFAIK there is still heaps of snow up there that's ski-able, but the season's at the end of its financial gain so skiing closes.

The maximum amount of snow depth for this year was up near 1.6 metres - shallow in some parts of the world but deep for down here. Bros got a photo of a sign in japan saying "do not ski - shallow snow - 130cm" which in aussie terms is ridiculous...

Good times!

Here's the latest:

2 weeks ago I replace all the rear swing arm bushes, bearings and added rear discs. The front end had a second hand set of hubs fitted hoping that the bearings were in better nic than the current set - the gamble paid off and they're going well.

Here's some pics of the rear end replacement and new discs:

^ The driveway setup... and below the best way to deal with the swing arms to push the bearing casings back in:

The old rear drums:

And the new rear disc setup, the old disc rotors were used and have scrubed up well:

After all of this was sorted, my sister and I took off to South Oz for some beach 4wd'n in goolwa and surrounding areas... Here are some 'choice' photos from the trip:

On the ferry to get across the Murray River:

On the beach... Seven subi's arrived for the event, a bbq on the beach was had before heading off.

More 4wd'n had on our way into adelaide, one of the ausubi boys showed us around:

^ at one point the water was just over the bonnet without any breathing problems :D

And the guy I had to squeeze between en route home while stopped off at the golden arches for a toilet stop:

I did the disc brake swap on my old GL. Very easy, inexpensive, and very well worth it, car stopped way better, especially when in wet weather.

Nice Bennie... Is that cop car double parked :D

Yeah mate, I had to squeeze to get in or out of my car! Thought a cop would set the example...

I totally agree! Love the new feel of the brakes, still can't get over it. If this is what L discs all round feels like, the crossbred kit must be totally amazing!

Not much happening with Ruby Scoo at the moment... I'm starting to play with some EJ wiring for the conversion. Once this is sorted it'll be a week with the subi in bits, hopefully starting first go shortly after being put back together...

Hey el freddo would you be able to tell me how you did the rear disc brakes? do you just get a pair from the front of an L series and the bolt straight onto the rear? or is it a bit more technical then that lol. I always thought the crossbred kit was just disc breaks or is it something else? cheers mate any info would be great!

Great pics, all very inspiring. You guys are tops for being able to do all this stuff to your cars - I'm still learning how to change the oil. Well done...

hay mate, the L series is looking good. post pics when you lift it. are you replacing the springs or putting blocks in?
