Getting the Forrie out of town on to a track. In this case, a race track. And having fun doing it. Not me, but a friend in our club.

No, I haven't taken the Forrie on to the race track except as a course car. My Forrie prefers dirt tracks to race tracks

Sweet video Rally! Not sure how great i'd feel hitting the pavement like that in an SUV, i keep my swirvin off road!
 
Awesome video! What's with the squeaking when under brakes - surely not low pad level??

Love the little G force indicator - but I think its backwards as to what you'd actually experience... Still a great little gauge on the video display!

Rally, whatcha got there on your Avatar? Looks almost like an old Pontiac or dodge. Pretty sweet lookin
 
It is a 1972 GT Falcon- a locally designed Ford. It ran a 351 with 5 speed Tremec gearbox and 4 wheel disc brakes. Before I sold it, I was part way adapting it to run ABS and a fully floating 9" rear end, EFI, alloy heads and supecharged. But then along came the WRX and I sold it. I used this car in all my across Australia trips- it has been to every state and territory save Tassie. As a GT car, it was far superior to the WRX. I developed it into a superb trans continental car, with lots spent on suspension, sump guard, petrol tank guard and so on. I would pull the rear seat out and put enough camping gear in it to last travelling over 11,000km's, The esky took up the most room, but food and drinks is pretty important! The car is now relatively rare, and pristine examples are worth good money. Maybe $50,000? So I changed the front panels when I went off road to standard guards and bonnet (The GT used unique guards and bonnet and so quite rare).

Here is the car with its normal panels but still with the bull bar.

She's a beaut! That's an awesome video of you flying along! Was it the 351 Cleveland or Windsor? You can't beat the old muscle cars :monkeydance:
 
It was a Cleveland, but I was building up a 351 Windsor with the alloy heads, etc. The Windsor had more modern bits for it, even though the Cleveland was produced here until 1982 and the last 351W powered car here was 1970.

When I first bought the car, it was black, and my nickname was in fact Max. Someone had Mad Max 1 on video, and for some extremely bizarre reason they had dubbed in other voices, with US accents, and it sounded terrible. Certainly earned Mel Gibson plenty of publicity. Of course, these days he doesn't need movies to do that. The car was originally orange, but I preferred red

This was the first car I went 4WDing in. Talk about pick your lines with low ground clearance.
 
My bro in law worked in the design section of Ford Geelong (first Ford plant in Aus for our OS mates) when this model was being developed. Remember him telling me that they had to modify the rear panel design, as they couldn't fold the metal to the original pattern without creasing the guards where the lights attached.
 
A while ago the current owner of the car contacted me. The car is now back in Victoria and it has been re-painted yellow. Orange, black, red and now yellow. Seems every owner wants it a different colour. He sent me photos of how it now is and I sent him some photos of how it was. The poor old thing had had a really hard life before I got it. Some drongo had converted it to a manual but put in a 6 cylinder clutch and kept the auto diff ratio. They cut an enormous hole in the floor which I fixed and I was always cutting rust out of it. I had to re-wire the windows as they were really slow but once done they were very fast. Yeah, muscle cars are all well and good but they are very demanding. Time moves on and the WRX needs nothing more than routine maintenance and I don't need to continually re-wire it or remove rust or fix the million and one other things I had to with the Ford. When I bought the Ford it was 13 years old and it was a bomb. I learnt heaps from it- one of which was I never should have bought it in the first place! But I had the best times of my life in crossing the country in it and it drove beautifully in that role. I sold it after 16 years, by then I had grown older and finally wiser. For most of that time though there was nothing I could see to replace it, and it was only when I realised there would be no more big trips did I seriously start looking for a replacement. I sold it in 1999, but still have some parts from it I want to sell- but the "holiday front end" with all the stickers and writing on it will not be sold
 
Thats a great story Rally. What i drove for a couple of years was a '78 Ford pickup, single cab, short wheel base 4x4. I loved that truck but with all the work i had to do just to keep it going was too much for me at the time. I wish i still had it, but after having a newer vehicle, it was just great not having to work on it every day. It probably would have lasted alot longer though if i wasn't constantly tearing it up off road. I do think everyone should drive an old vehicle for atleast some time in their lives. I never learned more about cars than i did when i owned it. It's name was the "hell bi***". :)
