Regarding reliability, which will be a better engine and what can be the problems in both models:
The 2.5lt 115 KW on the Forester up to 8/2003 or the 2.5lt 121KW after the 8/2003?
In there any other improvements between the 2003 and 2004 models?

Your inputs are appreciated.

The 03-05 Forester had a 112kw engine (the 115kw engine was in the Liberty/Outback but they are the same engine with just slight fiddles to the tune). The 121kw version in the 06-08 Forester was also used in the Liberty/Outback in unchanged tune. The reports of head gasket failures probably show up more in the earlier version because of age/milage. Having driven both versions in the Forester you should notice the difference in performance. "Wheels" magazine certainly did, testing the 112kw auto at 18.1 secs for the 0-400m and the 121kw auto at 17.5 secs. (The 09 126kw auto Forester did 17.3 secs and manual 16.8 secs). To put that in perspective though, they managed 14.8 secs in an 04 XT auto.

Thank you for the replay.
The info that I have on hand is the the 121kw engine is post 8-2003 and you mention 2006.
Is my info correct regarding the date of the 121Kw engine?

No, the 121 kw engine was released with the update styling in mid 2005 (called the 06 model)
