99 outback transmission.

Will a 1999 subaru outback transmission fit in a 2001 subaru forester? The transmission is a 5 speed.
 
Yes I've done it with same age WRX's, the 97 box is a 4 bolt & the 01 is an 8 bolt but it's just a matter of changing one of the starter motor bolts otherwise everything should match up ......... but make sure the rear diffs are the same ratio.
 
ok thak you, and what do you mean by changing one of the starter bolts? Do you have to replace it with one from the outback?
 
Do you happen to know what the diff ratio is in this transmission. I believe i need a 4.111 for the forester. Unless i just get the diff from this guy also but i like having lsd in the rear.
 
Sorry, not sure of ratio's but you can just swap crown wheel & pinion & yeah pretty sure it's a matter of just using the other bolt.....sorry but it was years ago.
