Hi All,

Noticed today that the on the passenger side of the car CV Boot had actually split, Saw lots of grimy/dirt a few weeks ago but was after a lot of muddy 4wding and didn't think much of it at the time. Obviously it wasn't that. Does it need repairing straight away? So it doesn't cause more damage due to the lack of grease etc. Haven't had any knocking noises or anything yet. Not sure if i got time till early next week and need to drive a bit.

And does anyone know roughly the cost of it repaired?

Cheers

had the same thing a while back. i would probably just replace the whole axel, the dirt and grime that has gotten in there is gonna cause problems sooner or later.

spend the extra and get an OEM axel (used is fine) almost every aftermarket one will fail you (they dont have enough grease and they are sh*t)

Good Luck!

A good long term plan is to get another front shaft(complete with both CV's) then when a boot splits you can just change over shafts and fix the split boot at your leisure.
Daza.
:)

I'd do the whole thing, not just the boot (thats what I did when I busted my boot a little while ago anyway :iconwink:)
You just don't know how much dirt & crap did get in there. Better to be safe than sorry I say

And yes, spend the extra few $$ to get a OEM one. The cheap one's are just that, cheap & nasty  The break easily & in no time at all :madred:

I've had mine done at NRMA Motorserve with reconditioned shafts a couple of times; not overly expensive to replace the whole shaft. But, yes, replace the whole unit now (in fact it costs about the same in labour to replace just the boot). You'll have a bit of time before it claps out completely. It was no more than $250 if I recall correctly. (I'll look for an invoice)

Labour 90.91; Parts 145.45 - 23 April 2010. For a LH front shaft replacement.

Yeah about Right, got a quote from bridgestone service centre at they quoted $280 inc Wheel alignment for the whole shaft, and $120 for a boot replacement. Need a new clutch and a gearbox mount so its going to be an expensive one. still waiting on pricing for them.

Just swap the whole axle. You can get them new, with a warranty for $100.
It's a 20 minute DIY.
