G'day guys,

I own a gen2 03 Outback
I have been planning on lifting it with a 2" body lift to get some bigger all terrain tires, maybe some 215/70 or 225/70 if i can fit them.
I am a bit tight on money but I have also been looking at getting the lifted King Springs.
My question is can i install the lifted king springs without replacing the shocks or do i need to replace the stock struts with something like the kyb gr2's?

Cheers,
Paul

G'day Maggoo & :welcome: to ORS.

It all depends on whether or not you have self leveling struts or not.
If they are self leveling........Yes, they usually need replacing
If they are not self leveling...No, leave as is

Didn't someone (perhaps Taza?) find some springs recently that would work with the self leveling rears? They weren't king springs, I don't remember the name.

Come to think of it, I think you're right carljwnc. And yes I'm fairly sure it was taza.

As I've posted on Ausubi - no point reposting here.

I didn't know the outbacks came with self levelling struts - I thought it was just the foresters that had this.

OBs usually get the fancy stuff before Foz

Thanks for the welcome Mr Turbo, great forum!

I think i may have self leveling struts as it briefly says something about it in the owners manual but i am unsure as the manual has lied to me before haha

Is there any surefire way to see if it does or not?
Preferable without loading the car up and driving around

Cheers,
Paul

Yes it was me :raspberry: Dobinson do raised springs for both the Forester and Outback im pretty sure. They will fit the existing struts and work with self-leveling rear suspension. They are more heavy duty compared to King Springs too and shouldnt sag as much. I am booking mine in for them in almost exactly a months time. Had a few set backs but now im all good.

Thanks for the info Taza.
I have taken a photo of my rear suspension and it looks like it is just a standard strut not self leveling. Not 100% sure though could someone please confirm this?

Taza,

I've been thinking about this and I can't work it out... How does a raised spring work with a self-levelling strut, which "pulls" the length of the rod to the same position?

The only thing I can think of is if the strut rod is extended (??)

Cheers,
Pedro.

No your right. When I went to book the Forry in today for my springs and lift to be installed (my leave at work was approved) I found out I have to get new rear struts/shocks to replace the self-leveling rear sh*t :censored: Not happy now thats gonna add another $400ish to get them done:madred:

Least I will be happy with it all though when its done.
